The Black wire will connect to body ground, and it should be a good solid ground and if this wire is not grounded well then you might receive a primary voltage shock if you touch anything that is metal or grounded inside of the vehicle when the engine is running.

The Red wire should be connected to power when the key is in the "Run" position only, and a good place to find that source is one of the "IGN" connections at the fuse panel using a covered female spade connector. Use a test light and be certain that the connection only has power when the key is in the "Run" position, and has no power when the key is in the "Off" or "Accessory" position.

The White or Yellow wire should connect to the "LPS" connection at the fuse panel next to the LPS fuse using a covered female spade connector.

The Green wire will connect to the "-" negative side of the ignition coil or to the "Tach" or "Test" lead that runs from the negative side of the ignition coil. To locate the lead run down the wire from the negative side of the ignition coil and the lead should break off from that wire and it should have a tag on the wire that will say either "Tach" or "Test" (sometimes it is just an empty black wire connector) and that is if the lead does not come straight off from the wire connector at the ignition coil. If there is no lead you can get a wire tap connector to tap into the wire from the negative side of the ignition coil and then use a covered male spade connector to connect the Green wire from the tachometer to the wire tap connector.

I just bought a sunpro super tach2 and it shows that it is running to fast. whats the problem


There should be 2 adjustments on the back. A switch for 4-6-8 cyl use and a slider to fine tune the rpm. If you know your car idles at 750rpm, move the slider until the tach reads 750. The switch for cylinder numbers should be self-explanatory and must be set first.

How do I install a Sunpro Super tach 3 in a 1987 Mustang 5.0

I have a high idle and the computer hasnt thrown a code. How do I fix this or what all could it be? I also hhave a sunpro tach and dont know what to hook it up to....?


if u own a 1989 sierra u dont have an obd or obd ll computer on board if high idle all time then search for a possible vacuum leak and or throttle/carb needs adjustment

Red wire would go to ignition battery, the black to ground. The third wire, probably green or blue, goes to the negative side of the ignition coil. Is there a wire for dash illumination?

How do I hook-up Sunpro Super tach 2. Wires: 1 each - green, red, white, and black? Or in general how do these type tachometers hook-up?


I've got an install diagram for that around here somewhere but for now, the trigger wire to run the tach itself goes to the "tach" connection next to the "Bat" terminal on the distributor cap. one wire attaches to your dash lighting so it comes on with the dash lights and dims properly, the other wire is likely a ground. If I don't add to this later, try googling Sun electronics...I am fairly sure they have an install page.

Pegging aftermarket tach. SunPro CP2011 installed in 1975 Chevelle. 350/350 Stock HEI. Needle at 9800 if engine running or not. Disconnect pwr wire and needle falls forward to dials. Not back to zero....


had one break like that! my buddy did the same thing! never figured out what it really was but it came down to it was just pushed past it's last leg. not sure if this is you case i would check the signal wire that goes into the engine bay! what ever you have it hook to like the coil etc... if that is fine i would say it is time for a new one or a warranty! good luck

I have a 1994 GMC Sonoma SL and it doesn't have a tach in it, so I brought one made by Sunpro. And my problem is I've never hooked one up. So is there anybody out there that can tell me how to do it? and...
