Cadillacs have a computer built riht in to the car and by simply pressing two buttons on the dash, will show you all the codes stored in your system. i don't remember which two buttons they are right now, but do a serch on google and find them, and then scroll down what codes it gives you, write them down, and then google the codes to find out what they are.

The buttons to push are the off and warmer buttons while the car ignition is in the on position. They will work with the car running or not, the ignition just has to be on and then you can check the codes on this site. I think it also talls you how to do it.

My 2001 mercury villager check engine light comes on. I use maxiscan ms309 to scan. found 2 code but no code show. it says "code not found in module. Try again and say the same thing.

Not sure, but you may need a more sophisticated scanner that will also report special codes that for instance the transmission module communicates to the powertrain control module (PCM- the main computer on the vehicle, but nowadays there are also computers on several other systems, like the transmission and the chassis electrical system, and the ABS system. They all communicate with the PCM. I thought all codes were available from the PCM, but maybe not in your case.
Anyway, if you have a friend with a more high-end scanner, try scanning it again. Or try at Autozone, and see what their free scan says.

How to access trouble code

year vehicle manufactured? if 1996 & later, OBDII scanner to be plugged into a port (typically, should be near the steering column, under the dash).
older models may have OBDI (no standard location of port) scanner specific to the make of the vehicle. search the web, on how to read manually (or without scanner) the code by counting the number of blinks of the MIL (malfunction Indicator light) (aka check engine, or service engine soon).

I need to know how to do a relearning process for the PCM to communicate the TDS on my 1998 Cadillac DeVille I recently replaced the computer and it won't start! I plugged my scanner to it and it only...

The last time I looked, the PCM has to be programmed by a dealer or authorized shop for the vehicle VIN number (the anti-theft and radio systems will already be programmed to only accept this number). If it is, then the anti-theft system has to be reset, also usually by a dealer with a programmer.

1995 VW Jetta fault codes will not read

Hi Gregory, take the vehicle for a diagnostic scan. I am not very sure what question you're asking. I believe that you may be reporting that code 4 and 15 are reporting faults. If there are no fault codes the scanner will report 'No fault code" If it shows the two you report, a fault has occurred in those two areas. Regards John

Just did a tuneup new wires and plugs how do I

Turn the key on. Hold off and warmer on the climate control until all the lights light up. It will now read out all the codes in all the computers. Let it go until it reads (PCM?). Now push up on the blower speed. It will read PCM DATA. Now push down (I think 3 times) until it reads CLEAR CODES. Now push up on the blower speed. It should read PCM CODES CLEARED. Now turn the key off.

No fire from the distruator to the spark plug

First scan the PCM for trouble codes using a hand held engine scanner, Then repair codes by replacing failed sensor as needed. If no codes are present we would check the crankshaft sensor.

Cant access cars computer for codes. it denies ob2 tester access.

I have the same problem. I found out that in 95 chevy used the connector for an OBD-2 system and the PCM for an OBD-1. In order to access the computer you need a scanner that fits the OBD-2 connector and reads the OBD-1 PCM. I called around and either you can take it in (if drivable mine is not) to Knechts and they will scan it for free. Auto zone carries the CP9185 accutron scanner for 250 dollars and if it does not work for some reason you can take it back as long as you don't ruine the package. Other companies make scanners that will work but they all cost 250 or more. Good luck.

Check engine light is runs ok

You can read codes without a scanner on the 1995. You have to turn the switch on the PCM (powertrain control module) which is by gas pedal near the floor under the dash. The switch is turned with a small screw driver. Get a Haynes manual or go on internet for procedure and codes. You read the flashing service engine light to get and erase codes. Or, do as other poster said, get an OBD-II code scanner for $80, or go to parts store (Advance or AutoZone will do it) and they will read the codes for you. If you use a code reader, the port (plug receptacle or DLC) is on the passenger side under dash near center of car, near floor, on other side of PCM. You have to pull off a trim cover piece to get to it. I think 1995 is the last year for reading the flashing light and all cars from 1996 on must use OBD-II scanner/reader.
