Question about 1999 Ford Escort
My car has a long history, 1999 Ford Escort ZX2, 167,000 miles.
She has been sitting for a while and needs work; we replaced the battery and starter, and while before I know the starter was fried because of the sound it was making. Now, the sound… sometimes it makes the “locked up sound”, then it makes the “cranking” sound, and then it did start once: so… I had an 82 Chevette that had a flywheel that “didn’t connect” whatever that means and made a horrible sound when I started it sometimes and it reminds me of this- could this be the same thing- or am I dealing with something worse? Like I said… She kick starts just fine… J
Thanks for your help...
Sounds like the battery is way under power,or the starter motor is the wrong one count the number of teeth on the pinion 9 or 11.put battery on a trickle charge for at least a week to de sulphate the plates or a nice new one and put that on charge as well as often batterys are on the shelf for a long while and need a recharge ,but only a slow charger no booster as this can buckle the plates
