Try using WD-40 or similar solvent(BE CAREFUL REMEMBER YOU ARE WORKING NEAR A BATTERY WITH PETROLEUM DESTILLATES!!!!) if the solvent don't work the bolt may be damage and it sould be replaced .luck!

2003 xtype will not turn on,switch problem it looks like ,i removed etc to clean and now its hard to get the switch to even wants to start whats my problem someone please

has the battery been disconnected? If so, I have heard of this problem. The on board computer speaks to the car constantly and after 10 days of non charging the battery is flat! The only solution is a visit to your nearest Jag garage to get it all re-programmed, this solution would also include Battery disconnection. Check with a Jag garage first, it's free to ask, but this sounds like your problem. A major design flaw if you ask me.

How long does it take to replace the starter on a 2000 S Type Jag?

This is a good 4-5 + hour job for a professional.

In this vehicle the steering rack must be removed for access... along with a rear engine height adjusting tool (Jack)

See the following:

  1. Working from below the vehicle, remove the power steering rack for access. (biggest part of the job.)
  2. Disconnect the starter motor main terminal.
  3. Disconnect the starter motor solenoid terminal.
  4. Remove the starter motor bolts.
  5. Carefully remove the starter motor.
  6. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure. Tighten the starter motor securing bolts to 38-48 Nm.
  7. Install the steering rack. Refill the reservoir with the recommended fluid and bleed the steering system.
  8. Lower the car.
  9. Connect the battery and install the battery cover.

02 jag x type how to remove starter

Hello sal... On the X type Jag everything comes out fron the top.

Remove battery and battery box
Pull back rubber cover at end of starter solenoid and undo wires
Un bolt 2 bolts that attach the starter to the bell housing/ Transmission. - these are vertical bolts, you can see them looking straight down from above. One of them has a ground wire on it.

Then lift starter and wiggle its way out of there.

If you have a manual transmission, have the starter tested, i have seen the bendix/pinion gear all gummed up with clutch dust, and then it wont engage properly and will make horrible grinding noises. This can be easily taken apart, cleaned, relubricated and put back into service.

Good luck, i hope this helps.

How do i replace my own starter on my 1987 licoln town car?

1. Raise the car and support it.
2. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
3. Crawl under the car and locate the starter. It is easiest to do this by following the positive power cable from the battery down to the starter.
4. Remove positive cable from starter.
5. Remove wires from solenoid.
6. Remove bolts holding starter to the transmission bell housing.
7. Remove the starter.

Installation is the reverse of removal.

Is there an installable battery disconnect switch for jag s type

u can install a disconnect but when u disconnect the power it clears all settings in vehicle such as radio will have to enter code so anti-theft lock out doesnt occur or have to reset from loc to normal -memory seats -emissions reset which means that problems for inspection if vehicle doesnt cycle thru before one is done -have battery and alternator tested most auto stores do this for free -- if problem only happens during rain check connections around battery/alternator/and fuses for loose or connections that are getting wet
