I had this happen to my Neon. My fuel injectors were not working right and dumping fuel into the oil. The cylinders were misfiring, my engine seized and I had to replace it. Get it check ASAP

Chances are you have a faulty magneto.

This sounds as if you have cylinder that are misfiring. This would cause the no power problem you have, and the knocking sound.

you developed a knock in the engine, sounds confusing but your engine computer can't separate bad bearing from pre-ignition, engine knock, to cure this your computer retards the spark, to the max to stop the knock, confuses the computer to the max

Sparkling sound in the engine when accelerating on motion

That sounds like pre-ignition or "knocking".

Is your check engine light blinking?

Try a tank of higher octane fuel like unleaded premium, and if the sound goes away, I'd then have the trouble codes scanned looking for a faulty knock sensor.

While merging onto the highway when my car hit 3 and 4th gear the engine seemed to "stutter/misfire" during harder acceleration. Check engine light also flashed briefly during hard acceleration. Dur

Could be a transmission problem or something as simple as bad spark plugs.
The engine is under the most load when RPM is low and you are trying to accelerate, such as when it upshifts.
You should have the computer checked for trouble codes and hopefully that will point you in the right direction to test.
If the spark plugs have more than 50,000 miles of wear you might start with replacing them.

I have got a mercury grand marquis 2003 LS ultimate and having a knocking noise for few seconds when accelerating sometimes specially when the engine is hot and that will reduce the power. any ideas?

When you say the engine is hot are you talking about the normal operating temperature? Has the Check Engine or Service Engine light come? If so, was the On Board Diagnostics system checked for a codes? Usually a knocking sound during acceleration indicates a improper fuel mixture or low octane.

Make sure you have enough oil in the engine (though it's likely too late) If you have knocking and oil light on, sorry to say, you likely have lost a rod or crank main bearing (engine needs to come out of car and completely apart (very expensive) Options are a re-manufactured or scrapyard replacement.

Hello fellow Texan!

AutoZone should have gotten more than 1 code for this problem. The problem could be any number of things from knock sensor to O2 sensors. More information is needed.
