Question about 2003 GMC Envoy Xl

1 Answer

Idle drops when in park

Sometimes when I start gmc envoy and let it run for a minute the idle speed drops and occasionally cuts off. If I'm at a light with my foot on the brake and the gmc in gear it does the same thing. From time to time the check engine light will come on. If I unhook the battery it's fine and the light goes away. It doesn't run any different when the light comes on it's just annoying to see the light. Please help.

Thanks,
Jeff

You should check with a scanner to retrive the codes the PCM register, depending the code you can either send the vehicule to a mecanic or to a GM dealer for repair.Do not desconnect the battery anymore or you'll loose all the PCM codes and it will be difficult to find the exact problem.luck!

What advise can you give for multiple 2006 GMC envoy Denali engine problems?

What is the fault code you receive when the engine light comes on?
If you do not know try to retreive the engine trouble codes and post them here.

Idles roughly, then low when stopped or in park, then dies. Decreasing gas mileage. Slow to accelerate

Sometimes that's caused by a vacuum leak near the manifold area.

Sometimes air in the coolant will cause an idle problem. Air will keep the air temp sensor from sending proper info.
Hope this helps.

I replaced my battery in my 2004 GMC Envoy last week now the car cuts off/stalls whenever I come to a complete stop. It fires right back up once I put it back in park and start it again.

The throttle body needs to be cleaned, When you disconnected the battery, the computer reset to factory defaults and now with a dirty throttle body, it will run poorly at idle. Make sure both the front side and rear side of the throttle body are cleaned thoroughly.

2004 GMC Envoy Idling high

sounds like the throttle plate is stuck try cleaning is out do not push on the throttle plate will damage it. have some one sit in the vehicle with their foot on the pedal take a tooth brush and some carb cleaner clean both side of the plate and inside the housing the best you can and see if the stops it.

2004 Envoy xl stalls when making turns

this is caused by slow engine idle speed, do the procedure below.
Here is the common cause of surges, stalls at stops, slow idle speed, erratic idle speed, rough idle and engine hesitation (and other problems), it is in most cases the idle speed control air-bypass valve and or throttle valve and upper intake, these area's get full of gunk and combustion residue over the miles and cause idle issues (stalls, low idle) like yours, Get a can of intake cleaner from any local parts store, not carb spray, intake cleaner, it is made by a company called CRC, remove the air intake hose to the engine, hold the idle high so the engine won't stall, then spray the can of cleaner into the intake while keeping the engine running, use at least 1/2 the can, shut down the engine and disconnect the battery for 5 minutes, then restart and complete a number of mixed driving cycles, town, freeway, stop and go etc., after a few days the problem will go away as the system will relearn to the clean intake.

Dies when idling, does better with a/c on, but still dies
