Thanks for the hint, no hole under key, believe me I looked. What I had to do was take of the bottom cover from the steering column, couldn't get the top one off, I was going to change the ignition but instead I found a release button and so I've just been using it to get the key out, so far works great!!

Its a bad ignition switch or harness to the switch. there is a hole right under the key in the plastic. gm put a rubber plug in the hole. it use to be the hole were the key release was in the older jimmys. take a small screw driver and pop the plug out and you will have access right to the key release. or have the switch and harness replaced and fix the problem all together. good luck

How can I get key out which is stuck in ignition of 2008 cobalt. It also won't start

This can happen if the battery is low / dead. To solve, connect a set of jumper cables between the battery in the Cobalt and a running car's battery. Shut off the running car. In the Cobalt, make sure all accessories (lights, radio, fan, etc.) are off. Step on the brake, then move the gear shifter fully into the PARK position. Next, either attempt to start the engine, or turn the key to the OFF position and remove it from the ignition.

I hope this helps & good luck!

My nissan altima will not shift out of park

In 2007 Altima with the Passive (Push) start, this problem occurs when Brake switch is either bad or needs an adjustment. In this case, temporarily solution is to open the button available just above the Park position by the lever. Once that 0.5-0.75" hole is open, start the engine and then insert a key in the whole, and push it downwards. While the key is pushed downwards, attempt to shift the lever out of park, you will be able to shift. If still not, gentally, push the key little harder, and repeat the process again. You must be able to shift out pf park. Then, remove the key, and drive.
Again, this is just a temporary solution. Get the brake switch adjusted or replaced ASAP. TC

Ignition switch won't release key when it is put in park. But when I removed switch and key tumbler, the key tumbler/cylinder releases key. Why won't the key release when it is in park?

Most newer models have a safety feature called
shift interlock. This prevents the key from being turned back
to the lock position if you forget to place the gear selector in park.
Depending on the model,
If it uses a cable, it may be sticking or needs adjusting.
If it uses an electrical solenoid. may be blown fuse or park switch.
Tap, shake, and pull up on the shifter and make sure it's in park.

Key is stuck in ignition , engine will turn over, can not remove the key.

I got mine to release while it was in park, without the car being started, and pushed it back and forth, something clicked and the then the key came out. I guess the car did not sense it was fully in park or something.

2003 Pontiac Grand Prix Gtp cannot get key out of the ignition.

On the steering column on the right side, there is an opening of which you can insert your finger and feel for a button inside the column. Push this button and the key will release. THis is a bypass. Works well for me on my 99 Gp and I am a woman. I learned this from a retired military shade tree mechanic. Hope this helps. Bev

Stuck in 'park'. When I got home and put the car

See a honda dealer or remove console to get to shifter solenoid. Also adjust cable to get key out of ign. We always would pull shifter back and push it foward firmly into park to get them to release key.
