Question about 2007 Dodge Sprinter
I recently replace an engine on my 2006 sprinter after 188,000 miles.$10000 was the cost but my question is why did it blow? There was a torn piece of metal came off the upper cam shaft (you could see it by opening the oil cap and look in). I was told once you can't idle these engines for very long , but I can't get a clear anwser to this. I use additives in my fuel, oil changes every 10000 miles, fuel filters replaced every 15000,but the engine still blew.I'm out 1 year profits, but I need to know why it blew so it does'nt happen again.
If youve done 188,000 miles in two years then i suspect that vehicle has more than most contributed to your bottom line.old age, wear and tear, metal fatigue, over reving, over loaded, broken timing belt,to name just a few of many possible reasons why it failed but at the end of the day it has done a lot of mileage in a very short time.Other contributing factor may be driver/s style and type of traffic conditions city/hiway.Without spending obcene amounts of money x raying and testing to attempt to isolate the exact reason no one in thier right mind would give you a specific reason for the failure.Good luck, hope someone else can think of something
