I had the same problem and the dealer said that the coolant was low and that there was air in the line. They told me they I had to have the whole thing flushed out and that it would cost around $200 and that of course it wouldn't be covered under the warranty. This was right after I bought it brand new. I have never had such a problem in any car I've ever owned.

Heater was fine until there was a storm. The heater won't blow out heat.

Sounds like low fluid level, ensure you have enough collant in the system. I had the same problem caused by a slow leak in the rear heater.

This sounds to me like the thermstat is is a low temp one, I would check and see what temp it is and replace it with a 195 degree thermostat. either it is faulty or as I say it is a low temp one. One other thing to check is that the gate valve on the heater vent / hoses is openning properly, and not stuck. Good luck and remember to rate all solutions that you get on FixYa, thanx.

No heat dont switch to heat

Depending on the vehicle. There are a number of things to check. First check your fuses. You may have a bad heater control, a vaccum leak (depending on make and model of car) a short in the wiri g or a bad servo that switches from cold to hot. But first let the car get to operating temperature with the heat and fan completely of after the temp gauge goes up turn the heat on hot and the fan up. If it blows hot for a few seconds then back to cold then you need a heater core flush or heater core replacement

My heater costantly blows cold

if your heater constantly blows cold then there is a problem with water circulation I:e the heater has a small radiator like your engine has a large radiator the small heater radiator is called a matrix instead of just cooling the water passing through it like the radiator for your engine it is designed to give heat via a fan that blows through it so when it fills with hot water from the engine bay the blower fan blows through it thus giving heat inside the car if it is blowing cold then there is no water getting to it or the water is low in engine bay or there is a blockage even possibly a leak or quite simply the switch that controls the flaps to give you hot or cold air is stuck in the cold position with out more info and me asking more questions this is the basic idea of how it works
hope this helps

My heater, when parked and idle, cools down. The heater will heat again once I begin driving, but this is freezing me as I sit and wait for my kids at school. It blows cool air while I am parked and will...

It could be the electric fan is going on too easily.
The radiator and hoses should be almost too hot to touch.
And when cold, the fan should not really do on at all.
But the thermostat could be opening too soon also.
There are two hoses to the radiator, and when you start a cold car, only one should slowly get hot.
The other should stay cold until the thermostat opens, after the engine is good and hot.
If both start slowly getting warm at the same time, then you need a new thermostat.
And also make sure you have enough coolant in the radiator.

I have written a tip on this.
You may have a couple of problems. I would first replace the thermostat, and make sure you have the proper coolant(ant-freeze) level.
Please let me know how it goes and if you need further help I am here.

Engine overheats when heater pipes connected

I think you could be right about there being air trapped in the system.
Or the heater core(radiator) is plugged.
Either way you need a pressurized radiator coolant pump to put the coolant in without air being trapped.
Although,i have seen it done by jacking the vehicle up high enough that the radiator was now higher than the heater core level, and then the coolant was put in.
But this is dangerous to try.

Heater only blows hot (well, warm) on full speed of fan

Replace the temp control on this car, it should be electrical control not cables.
