If its on dash there is a release button underneath the knob that you press to release. Remove the lower dash panel to get easier access. Locate hole, insert finger and push the button inside while pulling the out the knob which turns on the headlights. The plunger will come all the way out if you're pushing the release button in enough. You can now undo the large retaining nut with a flat screwdriver. Now unplug the wire connectors and you're free!
Please note, it ain't as easy as it sounds! It's damn hard to unplug the wires as there's no room to get to them.
have fun!

If switch is mounted on turn signal lever: remove steering column covers screws are on the bottom of lower cover. once covers are removed you should see mounting screws for the multi-switch(thats what they call headlight/turn signal switch combo). remove screws and connectors & replace switch w/new and reverse procedure.

I need a detailed instructions on how to connect a toogle switch to a fuceable link to a battery and to a halogin headlight bulb?

Ok there are 2 ways todo this ,, the first is the easiest but not the cleanest..

First ..
1.) connect 8 guage wire from postive battery terminal to (2 port fuse holder)..
2.) from each of the fuse in the holder connect to the positive lead of each bulb (which should be in the bulb holder and in the headlamps or fogs or whatever).
3.) connect negative to a bolt on cars body.. Lamps will come on..
4.) remove positive from battery terminal..
5.) connect to your spst switch (what ever kind of switch u are using.)
6.) mount switch inside car,
7.) connect wire from other lead of switch to battery terminal..(pos)
Switch the lamps on and off using the switch..

Second method..

you will need
2 4-pin relays
8 guage wire
tester

1.) remove connectors from both head lamps
2.) turn on head lamps and test to see which is positive on each
3.) bridge this wire to the Com on the relay .. (1 head lamp to 1 relay)
connect positve wire from battery termial to relay (each relay seperate wire)
connect negative wire from cars body to relay (each relay seperate wire)
4.) connect Out from relay to Positive on Halogen bulb
6.) connect negative from bulb to cars body

now the lamps will come on and off with the head lamp switch..

Alternatively you can connect the fuse holder to the battery, and connect a switch to that and then that to the positive in on the relay..

Sorry I dont have any diagrams didnt have the time to draw one,, answered this quickly this morning before work..

Fog lights do not come on either when using headlights or with the fog lamp switch in my 2002 Grand Am SE. Fuse seems to be fine.

REPLACE THE FOG LAMP SWITCH DOWN ON THE STEERING COLM. REMOVE THE PROTEC. PANEL UNDER STEERING COLM. AND GENTLY START TO LOWER THE COLM. WATCH OUT FOR THE SHIFT IND. WIRE- REMOVE IT- LOWER COLM. AND HALF WAH DOWN ON THE TOP SIDE IS THE SWITCH FOR THE FOG LAMP CONTROL IF YOU HAVE ALREADY REPLACED THE ELEC. SWITCH - (PUSH BUTTON OR ROCKER STYLE ).IN THE DASH. IF - - LIGHTS AREON AND THE FOG LAMPS ARE TURNED ON AND THE HEAD LIGHT GO OUT OR WONT CHANGE FROM DIM TO BRIGHT REPLACE HIGH/LOW SWITCH ON COLM. SAME PROCEDURE AS FOG CONTOL SWITCH.

The whole head lamp assembly has to come out to replace the headlight bulb. Here's how to do it.

  1. Remove the jack screw attaching the top of the head lamp to the head lamp mounting module.
2. Grasp the upper inboard and lower outboard corners of the head lamp and pull the head lamp outward.

  1. Remove all of the bulb sockets from the head lamp module.
  2. Separate the head lamp from the vehicle
  3. INSTALLATION: CAUTION: Do not touch the bulb glass with fingers or other oily surfaces. Reduced bulb life will result.
  4. Install all of the bulb sockets in head lamp module.
  5. Position the head lamp on the vehicle and align the ball studs with the sockets.
  6. Push the head lamp inward to secure the ball studs with the sockets.
  7. Install the jack screw attaching the top of head lamp to the head lamp mounting module

Headlights

the lamps are removed from the rear of the lamp assembly. you will see or feel a ring where the lamp goes into the back of the light. simply pinch and twisted the retainer to remove the lamp. When replacing the lamp it is recommended that you do not touch the lamp itself as the oils from your fingers will cause shorter life
