SOURCE: service engine light stays on. Adjustment of gas

maybe a leaking charcoal can. or one of the tubes-rubber hoses that go's from the tank to it leaking which in turn would give the same code as the gas cap failure as before because the system is not closed or sealed .Which would inturn cause the light to come back on.

Gas cap indicaytor light came on. Changed cap and made sure it was tight but indicator light still comes on

The gas cap light is a generic light that indicates an emission problem. Usually a vacuum/pressure leak within the system. The gas cap is usually the first thing to check, however may not be the problem. There are numerous sensors and lines that control the vacuum/pressure/ of the fuel vapors and one of these is loose/disconnected/defective causing this light to come on. I would recommend inspecting hoses under the hood for any that may be loose/disconnected. You may also require a scan test to view sensor data to isolate the source of the light

I have honda odyssey and the service engin coms on and the cod is p1456 so ineed to figur out thanks.

This probably means:
  • P1456: Evaporative Emission Control System Leak Detected (Fuel Tank System)
  • Usually this is because your gas cap was not fully tightened. Be sure to turn it until you hear a click.
  • After you tighten the cap, it might take a couple days of driving before the light goes-out.
  • Be careful to tighten your gas cap regularly, because otherwise it puts a heavy strain on your emission system.

was the gas cap loose? if it was, then it may take a few days to go back off. It it was tight and good, then you have other problems. it may be covered under warranty/

Hello, sorry to hear about your problem in such a new vehicle. If your problem is indeed the evap cannister it would be covered under the Emissions section of your warranty. Take a look at your warranty documents and see what the mileage is. I think your vehicle is covered for emissions related failures to 70,000 miles. The Powertrain warranty does not normally cover the emissions system.

Gas caps don't fit and cause the service engine

Yes, the wrong Gas Cap will cause your Engine Light to come-on and stay-on. The Gas Cap is connected with your emissions/EVAP system which is monitored by the computer. An incorrect Cap would cause incorrect cycling of fuel vapors, causing errors.
Only get your Gas Cap from the Desk at the Autoparts Store after they have looked it up on the computer. OR go to a Dealer to get the correct Cap, but this is usually more expensive. OR call a local Junk / Auto Salvage Yard and see if they have one for your specific/exact vehicle (this is the cheapest means). DO NOT by a generic Cap from the shelf, even if it says it fits all Ford's.

Service engine light stays on. Adjustment of gas

Hi:
The gas cap is usually a good suspect in this case, but to figure it out, you need to have your code scanned to figure out what is causing the light. Most auto parts stores will scan it for free, so give them a shot

Check Engine Light

Code P0442 means Evaporative Emission Control System Leak Detected-(small leak). Most times that code is set if you removed the gas cap while the engine was running. If not, you could have a bad gas cap. It's minor in the grand scheme of things, but to be on the safe side, replace the gas cap, have the code cleared, and drive the car for a day or two. If the light stays off, problem solved.

2005 dodge Ram 1500 truck 5.7 Hemi check engine lights comes on

Two things you want to know about the check engine light on any vehicle. One is it's an emission warning. The most common cause is a loose gas cap, make sure it clicks when you gas up. Second, is that being an emissions light, is that it'll require some test equipment to find the problem if you checked the gas cap and it's tight. You will want to do that at your friendly Dodge dealer. Why? They'll not only know what it is, it might be fixed free in the emissions warranty which has some parts that are covered longer than the vehicle's regular warranty. The shop on the corner doesn't do warranty work and they're not going to tell you if it might be covered.
