I had a problem like this one with a 2180 vw engine. The problem was the oil pressure was high.
The relief valve in the oil pump did not relive and the oil pressure rose to over a 100 psi. I also own a 95 grand cherokee and at 55 mph I see oil pressure on the stock guage of 80 psi 50 at idle. I had a problem like this one with a 2180 vw engine. The problem was the oil pressure was high.

Are you saying that the fuel filter is pressurising and blowing the filter apart. Please be more specific in what is happening and where are the air bubbles coming out of.
Your indications sound more like a clogged fuel filter or intermittant fuel pump. But it could also be your air supply! When was the last time you changed your air filter and fuel filter. I would start with those two first and then check the fuel pump.
My 95 Jeep GC had a similar problem when I was doing a lot of driving on dirt or gravel roads, and I had to blow out the air filter (with compressed air) often to clear the problem.
ok you need to know what your fuel pressure is and needs to be these fuel injected cars need to have a min. amout of pressure to run correctly so have fuel pressure checked and it could possibly be the pump or a regulator
pull belt off and turn pulleys until u find bad one. first start jeep with belt off and make sure its not in motor. check power steering fluid. dont leave motor running for 2 long with belt off
TRY THIS: Sit inside the vehicle with all the doors closed. Place ignition in the OFF position. Open the driver's door. Leave Open. Move the mechanical door lever to the LOCK position. Turn the ignition to the RUN position. Aim the transmitter at the Keyless Entry receiver and press Lock button. Hold for five seconds until the door locks cycle. Turn ignition OFF within 20 seconds
