Cant figure out how to install serpentine belt correctly

Your local library has the mechanic's grade chilton repair books as reference books which may not be checked out but for a few cents per page they will print out the diagram for you showing the correct routing of the belt.

Can't get belt tensioner to loosen belt so i cant get it back on

First ensure the belt tensioner (if removed) is correctly in the locator pin on front of engine, behind tensioner. Second make sure the tensioner moves (should turn counter clockwise to relieve tension). Third make sure you properly routed the belt correctly around all the pulleys, and aligned in the grooves. There should be a routing diagram on the rad housing or reservoir. If you are replacing the belt, hold it up to the old belt and make sure its the correct lenghth (if you get a belt for a different engine or one without air conditioning it will be shorter).

I have a 94 eclipse and my alternator belt snapped i took all the belts off they pulleys to get to it and i put the new alternator belt on and it is really loose and i cant figure out how to get it...

Make sure you have the belt routed correctly. There should be a diagram under the hood of how to do this. If it is correct then the part store may have given you the wrong belt. I have had this happen many times. It is annoying but it does happen. I hope this helps.

How do I tighten my alternator belt? I just put in a new alternator, but i cant pull the belt tight enough in tightening down the swivel screw securing the alternator.

did you get the right length belt or correct belt? there should be a bolt to loosen or tighten your belt separate from the alternator.attach bolts..

Cant set timing on 1991 nissan maxima

The marks are for an initial reference only. Once the belt is correctly in place and proper tension set, the cam is in time with the crankshaft and will stay that way until the belt breaks or slips from one cog to the next (won't happen if the tension is correct).

After the belt is initially set with the marks lined up, two rotations of the crankshaft (one rotation of the camshaft) will have the marks in a different place. The only exception would be if the belt had an exact multiple of ribs/teeth compared to the crankshaft, and that is not very likely.
