I have the same vehicle, and it is usually caused by the gas cap being loose or not sealing properly. Double check and make sure that it is tight and the code will automattically reset itself. If this doesnt work, Schucks/AutoZone will give a free code check and let you know what it means.

SOURCE: engine light on

quite often the engine check light is indicating an exhaust issue (not the pipe but in the engine) or a faulty oxygen sensor(s) I had a small rubber tube come off one of the sensors in my old Sedona once and after paying through the nose to get new sensors because the dealer said the diagnostic machine said they were faulty it was only weeks later when the issue had not gone away I discovered the pipe was off...

What causes oil check light to show when a car is idling and off when the car is eccelarated?

It is all to do with your oil pressure.
At idle 800rpm with a warm engine your pressure mite be say 15psi.
At 2000rpm that same engine would have a oil pressure of 40psi.
Your oil pressure warning sender is set at about 20psi.
It is only a warning light and not a lot to worry about for 15psi at idle is enough to keep up with a engine that is not under a lot of strain.

e turned off, then start the car and see if there is eney difference from when you turn the lights and heater on,if it is a little bit better when the lights and heater is off you could have a falty alternater.

Have the PCM scanned, you are about due for a timing belt replacement. If it shows camshaft or crankshaft corralation error them you need to replace it very soon.

I accidently put premuim gas in ny 02Protege (only 1/2 tank) now my check engine light went on...should i be worried?? how do i know the problem is the gas i put in? car runs fine...

Good Morning

Dont worry.

The check engine light is telling you something, but not that you put the gas in the tank. Probably an emission system gone haywire for a bit.

Autozone will check the light for free when you get a chance. But it is NOT the gas, so dont worry about it ...

Have a great day

this is any easy fix. Your idle air control valve is gummed up. Buy a can of spray carb cleaner. Remove the IAC valve (torx bits), spray the ugly gummed up valve with carb cleaner, take an old tooth brush and clean it up. then clean out the hole where the valve was located. use some paper towels and carb cleaner. Lastly while you still have a bit of carb cleaner, clean the throttle bore and plate-be sure to wipe out all of that gunk. Spend a few dollars and buy a new PCV valve and replace- or cheap out and clean it out with carb cleaner ( do it off the car). Put it all back together and cross your fingers. If this didn't work then you will have to replace the IAC. You can do it!

The ckeck engine light landrover keeps coming on light on my 1997

There are so many different things that could cause the check engine light to come on,you could spend thousands trying to fix things and still not get it to go off.I would check my fluids, make sure they are good.If you have a state where it will cause you to fail inspection,it would need computer diagnostic test.If not,I wouldn't worry too much about it,unless your car starts to run bad, misfiring or jerking around, stuff like that.If it is running fine, piece of cake. You would not believe some of the minor stupid junk that will turn that light on.If you are having bad running issues, just reply to this post and I will get an auto email saying that you did and we'll see if we can figure it out.Good luck! 2001 Saab 9-3 Convertible Check Engine Light

I have been driving my SAAB 9-5 with an engine light on for 3 years. I consistently get 29mpg average so I don't worry about it. I just change the oil, check the fluid levels and keep going. It is probably an O2 sensor and until your gas mlg suffers, I wouldn't. The dealer will hit you with a $90 diagnostic fee no matter what.

If you think this helped you please leave me good feedback.

My check engine light has been on \Replace cam sensor ?

The cam sensor and VCT sprocket is a fairly common problem on those cars and $1400 is a bit on the high side, but not terribly so. A new car might be in your future. If it runs ok, I would not worry about it though. The VCT adjusts timing for fuel efficiency and emmisions and won't hurt the car to drive. Though your fuel mileage and performance may suffer a bit.
