If the heater core is broken it will leak coolant.have the cooling system pressure tested to pinpoint the leak, but if you know the core is broken it will need to be replaced.

SOURCE: heater

Antifreeze vapors stink and the stuff is not good to breathe, If you must drive it lower a window some to get fresh air. If the system will cool ok with the pressure cap loose, running with the pressure relieved will slow down the leak from the heater core, perhaps that will help until repairs can be made.

Why does my journey smell like maple syrup when heat is on

The sweet smell you are getting is probably radiator coolant (antifreeze). This, if coming from the heater vents, most likely means that you have some sort of leak in the heater core. Either it is a loose clamp or possibly a defective heater core. Watch the coolant level carefully to avoid excessive loss and potential overheating. Be advised that simply not using the heater will not strop the leakage, as the coolant is always running through the core. It will only cause you to not get the smell since the air is bypassing the heater core.

Smell of antifreeze and heater blowing cold air in my 97 eclipse

Check heater core location for leakage. If no heat is coming out when you have the temp set to hot, chances are you have a blocked heater core. If you smell antifreeze from heater fan, you may have a leak in the box that contains the heater core. Your windows may fog up too, if you keep the heater on for a bit, but this happens more often if the air coming out is warm, or hot. Hope this helps!

Wind sheeled steams up

Hello Larry,

Usually this is caused by the heater core going bad, causing antifreeze to mix in to the air. The next thing to look for is the leakage on the passenger side and/or a weird kind of smell inside your vehicle.. Your heater core will possibly need to be replaced.

hi.
there should be a second heater core for the rear section. i think you can see the pipes from underneat the car. it will probably be easier to bypass them here, than at the heater core.

Looking for a heater core pipe (front)

If your carpet is getting wet under the dash and around , then you probably need a new heater core. If it is a simple leak that requires you to replace the hose ot clamp, then the heater core is leaking from the outside into the engine compartment instead of the inside of the car.

Need to flush the heatercore

your heater core has gone out, thats why there is no heat and thats from leakage of antifreeze. Usually when you can smell burnt antifreeze it usually points to a blown head gasket or cracked head, smell your exhaust and if you smell antifreeze theres your culprit
