You need to get your battery load tested, any battery shop can do this, even new batteries can be faulty, if the battery is ok then something on your car has a short and is drawing current, this can be dangerous as it generates heat where the short is and can catch fire. If the battery tests ok you will need to take the car to an auto electrician to find the issue.

Why does battery drain ?

there are several reasons...not enough cells in a weak battery(not enough cold cranking amps in battery to turn the car over). Check your alternator as well. Does the temperature drop? Sounds like you need a new battery(also when you turn off your car- TURN OFF EVERYTHING...sometimes a radio, or something not turned off(even a trunk light, interior light, security system(various things)- can zap the juice from your battery overnight or within hrs.-leaving not enough to start the car the next day....Hope that helps....Xx, Jasmine

How do I use a battery charger to charge my dead battery on a 2001 camaro

The red clamp on the charger goes to the + sign on the battery. The black goes to the -. I you want a deep charge(best) set the charger on 2 amps and run it for 8 to 12 hours. If you need to get the car started, set the charger on 225 amps for just a couple of minutes. Start the car while it is on..2 amps can charge forever. 20 amps for 30 minutes. 30 to 40 amps for 15 minutes. 225 amps for five minutes..DO NOT charge 20+ amps for hours. It will kill the battery

Jeep starts with jump..as soon as you turn it off it goes dead..no power for windows or even inside lights..

If you are completly without power for anything, you are most likly looking at a bad ground wire. Check the ground on the battery and follow the negative battery cable down to where it connects to the engine. Below are 2 pictures as I am not sure which engine size you have. The first is the location of that main ground from the battery for the 4.0 liter engine and the second is the location for the 2.5 liter engine. Sounds as if it's as simple as that if you are not getttting anything at all. Hope this helps.....

I have a homelite 720 generator but cant fingd the instruction manual and i need to know if the charger leads only charge a battery or can be used as jump leads i know this might sound stupid but i wo

I can't find any reference to a Homelite model 720 generator but most battery charging systems do not supply enough amps to run a car starter. Battery chargers usually work in the two (trickle) to ten amp range. Car starters need way more amps to have enough power to turn an engine over, depending on the size and number of cylinders in the motor. Some chargers have a switch with a 60 amp 'start' position to help the battery turn the motor over, but without that there is little chance the charger side of your generator will supply enough amps to help your battery.

Your battery power has been drained. First thing I would do is to charge the battery via using another car to jump start the car and let it run for an hour or two. Or get a charger and jump the car. Either way I would run it for an hour or two recharge the battery. If that doesn't work then you will have to replace the battery.

I pack my car this morning and when i came back to stat it it couldn,t.so it was jump started. i drove for less than one mile and and it went off again. i recharged the battery again, i drove...

3 possibilities are:
  • Dead cell in battery; a battery with a dead cell won't accept a charge from the alternator
  • Bad alternator; if the car will run on it's own without stalling, the alternator is probably still good; if the car stalls you may have alternator problems
  • Bad starter; (assuming you've ruled out alternator problems) a bad starter will start when the car is cold; once warm, it requires more power to engage than the battery has therefore, it needs a jump start
I'd advise bringing the car to a shop (most autoparts chains will do a free electrical system check) and have the electrical system checked.

You going in the right direction, but you don't
have the experience or meter to test anything

So you go to a repair shop & have the battery
tested ,as well as the alternator & current draw

When the alternator doesn't supply current, the battery light on the dash would light up. (assuming the battery lightbulb is working) Next would be to doubt the voltage regulator not doing a proper job, but usually its either dead or working.

Ghost consumers can be tracked when the engine is off and removing / attaching the battery lead causes quite a bit of spark. Measure the Amps with a multimeter when turned off. When it's in the 2 Amps and upwards region - remove one fuse group after the other to see where most of it goes. Then go through all the separate consumers in that group.

If it's a low current preferably below the 1 Amp - the battery might not be as healthy anymore as suspected.

Sounds like the alternator is still not making the correct voltage to charge the fully. The battery light comes on when the alternator doesn't make enough voltage to charge it. Your alternator might still be charging, but not putting out required voltage. I would have your alternator & battery tested. Hope this helps you.
