It may have a bad check valve in the fuel pump try this when it has to crank for a long time to start turn key off wait 5 seconds turn key on wait 10 seconds and rpeat 3 times if it starts right up the problem is the check valve in the fuel pump if not you need to find out if it si spark or fuel but sounds like it is the check valve sticking in the fuel pump

Check your fuel pressure. This will tell you if you are getting enough fuel. If you are not getting the proper pressure either your fuel filter is clogged or your fuel pump is failing and needs to be replaced.
I have had simmilar, is the fuel pump delivering fuel?
Is the fuel filter clean?
Are you getting a good spark on all of the plugs?
Have you got good cyl compression?
Try the cheapest Fixes first 1) change the air filter. 2) change the fuel filter. Add 1 can of B&G44K to a full tank of 91 octane fuel. This additive is the best on the market and only available through dealerships(Do not substitute). It will condition the fuel pump and injectors. Try this first, Then redo the ODBII test. Erase all stored faults after reading. Put a dab of RTV on the bare wires at the crank sensor to insulate wires.
HEY!! I had same problem and i didnt know i solved it til i put in a brand new battery! I think the battery was getting old, and the extra amps told the 'computer' that the car wasnt running and it just died at start up sometimes. the new battery must have kept the computer from 'glitching off' when we started it. and all is great now!
I actually have one of these myself that I drive daily! It is missing, several reasons for that, one plugs or wires, second these are notorius for headgasket problems and if it leaks can fould a plug. MIne did everytime it cooled down, but then after a few minutes it would dry out the plug and run ok. The wires and plugs would be my second check, the coolant level my first. These are great little cars and worth fixing in my opinion, I hope this helps you some, And Merry Christmas
sounds like the dreaded renault immobiliser ,in which case its dealer only as software encrypted.whats happening is the immobiliser is stopping it from starting when key is in start position cranking but it will go with a bump as starter motor key position not activated .try a wire from battery to small connector on starter motor .if it starts which i think it will then you know what to do ...old fashioned way with a push button.but are you getting prepared to lay the golden egg ???just in case
it might be the fuel pressure regulator, i have a similar problem with my 95 302. but mine just dies but starts right back up. i was told fuel may be evaporating out of the fuel lines, when it doesnt start the first try i pump the gas pedal 2-3 times and it starts right up.
