1991 toyota pickup head gasket replace machine the head?

every service manual says that the head should be checked for flatness and machined if necessary, but machining has pretty much become standard practice. unless the head has been machined a few times before, it won\'t hurt to "give it a lick" as we like to say. a responsible machine shop will only take off enough material to make the surface flat. also, if the motor was blowing into the cooling system, you should have the head checked for cracks; it will be a shame if you replace the gasket and the problem still exists.

You have either blown out the head gasket or cracked the cylinder head itself. You will need to remove the cylinder head and at a minimum replace the head gasket. Inspect head surface after dis-assembly to verfiy that no cracking is present.

replacing the head gasket solved one problem.
But, you have a leakage problem with oil and/or antifreeze now.
The head gasket could be failing again, or you have a cracked block or cylinder head.

Take it back to where it was worked on and say that you want it fixed, please.

good luck on this.

1991 toyota 4 runner heater does not work, the fan works, but no hot air comes out front or back. I just had the head gasket replaced and also cannot use a thermostat because it will overheat.

If you can not use a thermostat. you have bigger issues than no heat. head may have crack. head gasket may have been put on wrong. Plugged radiator. bad waterpump. if everything is functioning properly you need a thermostat to keep the engine running at the proper temp that is was designed to run at. Make sure that the cooling system is completely full and does not have an air lock preventing coolant from circulateing.

Bronco idles to fast and now will not shift to drive

well the fast idle is most likely caused by a leaking upper intake runner base gasket, this high idle may be related to the trans no engaging, fix the idle problem by remove the upper intake runners and installing a new base gasket and keep your fingers crossed
