Question about 2003 Honda Civic

1 Answer

2003 civic intermittent stall

When driving the car engine stalls and you cannot restart the car for a few minutes. The dashboard lights (engine light, key light etc also go out). This poblem is intermittent and has no relation to how long the car has been driven for it sometimes happens within minutes and other times does not happen at all. I have asked Honda Dealer who said it was probably relays under glovebox, I changed them but the problem is still there. Anybody

I have a similar problem. When I drive particularly locally I'll press down on the accelerator and the engine will pretty much stall. If I keep pressing down at some point the car will speed up again. I took it to the Honda Dealer and they said there was nothing wrong. I went to a local mechanic and he found that the air filter had put in improperly so there was a vacuum leak of sorts. He fixed that but the problem continues. He said that until the engine light comes on he's not sure how to proceed. Thoughts?

This happens particularly when it's warm outside. I've had the same results from my local dealership. This really needs to be addressed.

I have a similar problem. When I drive usually 2 mintues after i started the car I press down on the accelerator and the engine will pretty much stall. RPM goes under 1000RPM. If I keep pressing down at some point the car will speed up again. It happens once every month... since the last 6 months. They cannot find what it is...

We need a better answer. This is a common problem and more complicated than a cable issue.

I think you may have either a battery cable issue or more likely a ignition switch problem, most Japanese cars use the same design switch and I have seen the issue on other cars.

Why does my dashboard lights flash on and off when I break? battery and oil light turn on red before car shuts off. car will restart but shuts off again after driving a short while and repeats.

Have the check engine light scanned for codes related to this problem first. You may have a charging system issue causing low voltage resulting in the lights flashing/stalling.

Intermittent stalling

Two - from experience
1. Your fuel filter is 98% clogged - something sloshes around and it goes to 100% clogged and your stop. When you stop, that last 2% falls to the bottom of the filter. You fire it up and get going - repeat.
2. Your coil pack is bad and or the wires. The coil gets hot - plastic expands - begins to arc - and you stop

1 is more likely I think, especially if the service engine light is not on.

2003 civic stalls at stop

If a Honda is not producing enough amps it could cause it to stall but the battery should die if its the alternator. Sounds like the coil or distibutor.

91 honda civic dx. Starts, runs for a few seconds then stalls

Try pounding on the gas tank with a rubber mallet or similar tool. (careful not to dent the tank) Try starting it. If it runs, replace the fuel pump (it's nfg). I've diagnosed numerous fuel pumps this way. Remember the pump needs to be replaced, if you drive it, you don't know when it'll fail for good. Hope this helps. Please post the results.

2004 Sonata stalls out for no reason then won't start

hi there, i have a 2003 sonata and my car did the same. it stalled and the engine light stayed on but managed to get going again. i took it to Hyundai and it was the crank angle sensor. it needed replacing at NZD180.00 with 3 hours labour to do it. evidently they remove the front of the engine and cam belt etc. the workshop at Hyundai did it and charged 3 hours, not sure if that was excessive or not.

Engine stalls, check engine light, not fuel filter.

the white smoke as it stalls could be steam in the exhaust. This is caused by coolant leaking into cylinders from a leaking head gasket. You should check cylinder compression next with a compression tester.

2003 civic loses all power duing driving - engine stops dash lights go out and then cannot restart the car for a few minutes

I would first check all the wiring harnes multi plugs, if you have one that is loose that would cause an intermient fault and if left to progress could over heat and in extreme circumstances could set on fire, i am not tring to scare you but i have seen this have to various makes of vehicles. the connections could be arcing. if they all seem ok, obviously check the battery conections and the main fuse link that supplies the fuse board, they are usually near the main battery and are quiet say about 20mm long. another sugestion is the ignition switch could be faulty. if you can get the cowling off from around the steering column and get access to the switch, with the engine running give it a wiggle, this will also work for the wiring connections, have the engine running the checking the conections if loose or faulty it should cut the engine out, ONLY DO THIS TO THE 12 VOLT CIRCUIT, DO NT TOUCH THE IGNITION LEADS OR WIRIES UNDER THE BONNET WHEN THE ENGINE IS RUNING. Hope this helps
