I have water being forced into the overflow tank, originally thought it was head gasket problem, all tests show this is not the problem, the radiator has been 'rodded' and is now not blocked. I have removed the thermostat and now have the following symptom-with radiator cap removed and motor running the water overflows out of the top of the radiator, when the fan kicks in the water circulates in the radiator, when fan stops, water overflows and so on. with the thermostat removed I would expect the water to circulate all of the time. Any help would be appreciated.
Two chances either the impeller on the water pump has come off the drive shaft ,its plastic on a metal shaft and they do often go or the head gasket where the vehicle has been run with no antifreeze causing the water ports to corrode and get bigger ,hence your rad blocked so where did this blockage material come from? think about it

This is caused by pressurisation in the cooling system. Most likely is that the engine cylinder head gasket has failed. You need to go to a repair shop and get it tested.
Hope this helps
