Have you tried unhooking battery for several minutes. This should allow the computer to re-boot.

Purchasing 1996 grand marquis with 120k miles, should I replace intake manifold before it fails?

Intake manifolds are metal and don't usually fail. The gaskets that seal it to the engine may leak with time. If it isn't broke, don't fix it. Your major concern should be the condition of all rubber hoses including the flexible brake line hoses on the front wheels. There are metal springs inside the radiator hoses that help prevent the hoses from collapsing. Squeeze the hoses at the radiator connections (cold engine) to see if they feel gummy , have cracks, and still have the springs inside.

Rough idle and blue smoke. change exhaust manifold because it was cracks know its missing and sputtering when i put in gear. changed egr valve before manifold.

blue smoke indicates either a bad transmission modulator valve,or a manifold leak{intake} i usually do this test for a bad or suspected bad intake manifold leak, light a cigarette and take it around the intake manifold and look for it to glow really bright for an intake leak, for an exhaust leak you can see it blow the embers away from it.just make sure there's no gas around to ignite.always make sure that a fire ext.is onsite! thank you for choosing fixya.com!

Vacumm leak but can not find it think it is on left back side of engine. husband took manifold off then put back on since i have had problems with it missing and running like ****

there are several vacuum hoses back there, including the ones that operate the intake manifold butterflies. Those connect to a solenoid mounted on the upper manifold. I think the other one is PCV. I have drawn lines below where I think they go on.

Windstar 2000 3.8. Runs fine. Checked for codes and got p0171 and p0174. Cleaned the MAF sensor. Went to erase codes and found the there is a third one in there now. p0113. What is wrong?

The upper intake manifold gaskets and isolators (the bolts that hold the manifold down) leak and cause the p0171 and p0174. The reason they leak is due to a missing baffle in the front valve cover which allows some oil into the upper intake which swells the gaskets and wears them. The manifold gaskets and valve cover should be replaced. But before having this done check to see if the black plastic hose on the back of the rubber intake hose(between the throttle body and maf) has dislodged. This happens alot when a new air filter is installed and will cause the same codes.

Just put new spark plugs in 97 buick lasabre. Car now starts and runs, but is blowing out white smoke. Is this blown head gaskets? Does it have anything to do with the fuel pump put on 3 weeks ago?

these cars have issues with coolent getting into the intake... headgaskets are not one of the issues . check plugs for coolent. upper plastic intake has coolent flow in to chambers if u will, and over time they get micro cracks and brittle ...lower intake manifold gaskets are plastic also. ..cyl. heads are cast iron not alluminum . lower intake manifold is alluminum and upper intake is plastic .. on my lesabre a plastic 90 degree elbow connected to the lower intake manifold to the heater hose housing. the belt tensioner is connected to this housing im refering to. not saying for sure, but if it is this is usually why...
