Question about 1997 Toyota 4Runner
Just bought a '97 4Runner. The rear hatch will not open. Tried penetrating oil, manual pressure. Any ideas?
I have, no HAD the same problem! After a few trips to my friend's dad's shop for a shot of white grease up in there, he told me to simply give it a little kick when squeezing the latch! I laughed at first because really, my mechanic told me to kick my car! Well, we did just that for a while, maybe 2-3 years, and now it just opens. It opens just fine. We do give her latch a shot of WD-40 periodically, more for preventative measures, and that's about it. So, don't worry, just grease her up, give her a little kick in the @$$ and everything will be just fine. Plus while you're in the "kick the car while trying to open it" phase your friends and family will get a laugh! At least mine did!!

Mine sticks too. The only thing that works for me is to push on the door before you pull the handle. I'm guessing that it takes the pressure off the latch.
