Why won't the caliper bolts come out of the caliper on my 99 olds alero?

They just keep spinning. It's on the front drivers side

SOURCE: I am replacing the front

Spongy brakes could either a piston leak which would be visible or the master cylinder which you may not be able to notice. I would say the latter is more probable as the fluid can pass through inside the master without leaking. Usually you can purchase kits for them although some models are sealed units. The squeaking you are hearing could be the wear indicators but I am assuming you put new pads in. If not then I would advise you do. If you have then check there is clearance between the wear indicaters and the disc you can bend them out if required.

SOURCE: I can't get the caliper

Remove the lower brake caliper mounting bolt holding the brake caliper to the caliper bracket with a socket wrench. Pivot the bottom of the caliper upward away from the bracket to access the brake pads. good-day!

Have to ask.. Bald tires? if not look at the brakes. Brake hoses clogged from the inside and keep the brakes tight. Calipers can also do this.

I'm having a problem with my polo classic 1.6 (99-02 model), it always pulls to the left thought it's been aligned...

it could be that the brake caliper on the left hand side is sticking, jack the front of the vehicle up & spin the front wheels by hand & see if one is harder to turn than the other , if they are both the same then it isn't the caliper, check that both tyres are the same brand & tread pattern, this can sometimes make a difference, also tyre pressure, it could also be one of the rear wheels causing the problem, you need to check them to, if all these things are OK you may have to take the vehicle to ma front end specialist to see if they can solve the problem......hope this helps......cheers.

How to replace front discs and pads

Front brakes are very simple to do:
  • Pull off the front tires.
  • Remove the brake pads by removing the slide pin bolts where the piston assembly attaches to the caliper mounting bracket. The slide pin bolts are usually a 12 or 14mm bolt. Once the piston assembly is free slide the old brake pads out.
  • Compress the piston back into the caliper by using a large pair of channel lock pliers or a c-clamp. If you don't do this, you won't be able to get the new pads on.
  • Before you put the new pads on, replace the rotor.
  • Remove the two bolts for the caliper mounting bracket. They are in the back and are bigger than the slide pin bolts. Usually a 17 or 19mm bolt.
  • Pull off the caliper mounting bracket.
  • At this point the old rotor should slide right off. If it doesn't slide right off, look for a screw in the center of the rotor, some cars will have a screw there to hold the rotor on. If there's no screw and it still won't come off, try tapping it with a hammer. If you're replacing the rotor, don't be shy.
  • Put the new rotor on. Make sure to clean off any grease with brake cleaner that may be on the braking surface from packaging.
  • Put the caliper mounting bracket back on.
  • Put the new brake pads on. Make sure to use some anti-squeal grease on the back of the pads.
  • Put the caliper assembly back on with the slide pins. Grease up the slide pins as well.
  • Put the wheels back on.
  • Make sure to pump your brakes 10 - 15 times before you drive off. Because you compressed the piston back into the caliper, the piston will not be contacting the brake pads unless you pump the brakes.

Good Luck!

How do you install a r front wheel bearing on a 2003 olds alero

Safely support the vehicle and remove the wheel. Unbolt the brake caliper and pad bracket. Leave the brake line connected and hang it off to the side (don't hang it from the brake hose). Remove the brake rotor and the axle nut (should be a 36mm. If your not using an impact gun, this should be removed with the wheel on if possible to stop it from spinning). Disconnect the wheel speed sensor and remove the three bolts securing the wheel bearing. The bearing could then be removed. It may require some persuasion with a hammer. Installation is reverse of removal.

Replaceing brake caliper on driver side

I am assuming that you mean the brake line is made into the caliper. You will need to trace the brake line backward til you find the junction at the frame and disconnect it there. good luck. Dont forget to rate.
