I have a 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer. The reduced engine power and the service engine power light comes on when I crank it up while its cold outside....Mainly in the morning while getting ready to leave for work. Put it on a hand held scanner it gave code of P0601 check int module memory error but when i looked up the code in the book it said check power tran module memory error.. What do u think or what can you advise?
Our '03 Trailblazer acted the same way during a long trip when it got below 1/4 tank. We added gas and it pepped right up. Seems strange to me because it has never had this problem before. I suspect a problem with the fuel pickup inside the tank. Our '03 Trailblazer acted the same way during a long trip when it got below 1/4 tank. We added gas and it pepped right up. I have this same problem but this happened when it wasn't cold outside. It happened to me while i was driving from work to home. Reduced Engine Power light came on then it slowed down to maybe 10 miles per hour. But the RMP gauge stayed reved up and wouldn't come down. As soon as i disconnected some wires in the front of the truck it ran greater then usual. It also happened to me on a road trip from Tenn. to Texas on a very hot summer day. They said I may need to replace the electrical harness unit? Not sure what's what or even what I'm supposed to agree to when it comes to getting something fixed. Any suggestions, are welcomed...I have this same problem but this happened when it wasn't cold outside. It happened to me while i was driving from work to home. Hi Steve , your vehicle has electronic throttle control . I don't know if you are aware of this. The gas pedal have position sensors an a wiring connector with 4-6 wires .these wires are connected to the engine computer . an there is a electric motor on the throttle body assembly , the computer opens an closes the throttle . You probably have codes stored in the engine computer .
Reduced Engine Power Mode
When the PCM detects a condition with the TAC system the PCM may enter a reduced engine power mode. Reduced engine power may cause one or more of the following conditions:
?€¢
Acceleration limiting--The control module will continue to use the accelerator pedal for throttle control; however, the vehicle acceleration is limited.
?€¢
Limited throttle mode--The control module will continue to use the accelerator pedal for throttle control; however, the maximum throttle opening is limited.
?€¢
Throttle default mode--The control module will turn off the throttle actuator motor and the throttle will return to the spring loaded default position.
?€¢
Forced idle mode--The control module will perform the following actions:
-
Limit engine speed to idle by positioning throttle position, or by controlling fuel and spark if throttle is turned off.
-
Ignore accelerator pedal input.
?€¢
Engine shutdown mode--The control module will disable fuel and de-energize the throttle actuator.
A lot of times this is a dirty throttle body, possibly sticking at this mph. Clean with battery disconnected with throttle body cleaner. Must be nice and shiny. If the throttle body isn't functioning correctly or it's filthy, reduced engine power light will go on to act as a safe mode.
yeah when the reduced power engine light comes on that will happen. that will happen for a couple of reasons. use a code scanner and it will tell you what exactly is wrong with the car and you can clear the code when your done.
the same problem happend to me tonight, what did your problem end up being?
