Hot does make a difference. You say it won't start, but does it crank and not start, or not even crank? If cranks but will not start, any electrical part may fail as it heats, and when you shut it off the engine gets much hotter since coolant is no longer circulating. Thus, a marginal crank or cam sensor, or coil/ignition module may work while cold of while engine is running, but fail when you first turn car off.
you lost DC power.
battery dead, you didnt say if it cranks fast? does it?
check fuses, if car cranks fast.
if not check battery charge
if dont crank (sure wiggle shifter, sure try neutral starts)
if wont crank do tell of jumper started it cranks ok.

what most folks do is call AAA.
A common problem on GM cars and trucks, especially grand ams (unfortunately) is the security system. They can actually close off fuel to injectors and turn off starters. I wonder if this might be your problem. Is there a light on your dash that says security when you put your key forward to start? If that light stays on, its the security system. could be turn key forward dont bump starter wait for security light to go out then try to start if security light is not on check your starter and wires going to it the small one is most common but both go bad
Does it crank at all or is there nothing when you turn the key? If the resistor chips in the key(s) are bad, they shut down the fuel system for 3 minutes and it won't crank. I've had this happen and the problem was solved when I got new keys.
