Question about 2005 Chevrolet Express

No Start when key is turned

All dash lights, radio, power windows work. When key is turned nothing happens, can only hear the fuel pump turn on, nothing else. I Checked battery, it,s good, checked passlock system...

    I checked starter, no loose wires.. Also replaced the starter reply, still no start..

    Starter was replaced & Motorhome started up fine. Thanks for your assitance.

Ma wish to check starter it could be bad or have loose wires on it. There may be a starter relay in the fuse box under the hood it may also be bad.

    OK, Here we go, first check all fuses inside and under the hood, using a test light. You will have to turn the lights on to get some fuses to work, when you will come to the one that says crank you will have to turn the key to the start position to get power to that one, to check it. If all are good, go to the starter. Put your test on the small post on the starter solenoid have some one turn the key to the start position if the light comes on, check the battery cables they could have bad cable ends or a bad connection somewhere in between the starter and the battery, it could be on the ground side too. I suggest doing a drop voltage test to find the problem. You can do this on bottom side of the electrical system, positive and groundsides. Another thing you can check is, GM likes to pile up wires on both grounds to the block and on the starter usually 3-4 wires are hook on the same bolt or nut. Sometimes this gets corroded and one will loose power or ground this can cause a no start. This is hard to pen point I use a test light to check each wire term end while it is on the car before I do anything else. I have chased many of cars over this, for no starts and seen many people put a lot of parts on too. I am sending you the information on how to do a drop voltage test to help you out. You will need a meter to do this. Did you check the small relay in the fuse box under the hood sometimes you can change one with another if the number match up?

    TESTING FOR VOLTAGE DROP

    This test checks for voltage being lost along a wire, or through a connection or switch. Similar results cannot reliably be obtained through the use of continuity testing with an Ohmmeter. Multi-strand wires may test properly for continuity, but due to opens or corrosion in the line, display a substantial voltage drop when tested.



    Voltage Drop testing is a method of electrical diagnosis that can quickly locate high-resistance problems in a circuit. Digital Volt/Ohmmeters (DVOM's) can be used to measure the voltage drop across a load device or conductor. Voltage Drop is the loss of voltage caused by the flow of current through a resistance. Increases in resistance increase the voltage drop. Whenever checking Voltage Drop, current must be flowing in the circuit.



    Each load device must receive its rated voltage to operate properly. If not enough voltage is available, the component will not operate as it should. When compared to specifications, the available voltage at the component should be above the minimum specified. If it is not, a loose connection, corrosion, or faulty power source is indicated.



    Voltage drop testing is commonly done to check wires, connectors, and connections for excessive resistance. Normally, the voltage drop on the power feed side and ground side wires, connectors, and connections should not exceed 0.1V or 100mV.



    Voltage drop testing is important because high resistance can prevent proper circuit operation. Circuits with high current draw cannot tolerate high resistance. For instance, a loose or corroded connection can easily add several ohms of resistance to a circuit. This amount of resistance in the starting circuit would severely reduce current flow to the starter, not allow sufficient cranking speed, and possibly result in a no-start condition. This amount of resistance in the ignition primary circuit would prevent proper coil buildup and reduce secondary voltage below that needed to fire the spark plugs. In today's computer operated systems, resistance in a sensor circuit may cause the computer to interpret a sensor signal as too low of a voltage and attempt to correct for a non-existent condition.



    Note: The battery should be fully charged to operating voltage prior to performing tests to obtain accurate results.



    To test for a Voltage Drop on the Power side of a circuit, (figure 1) follow the steps below.



    1. Connect the positive test lead of a Digital Volt/Ohm meter (DVOM) to the power source. Use of an analog meter is not recommended because damage to the meter could result from improper polarity.



    2. Connect the negative test lead to the other end of the wire for the circuit being tested (pointA).



    3. Operate the circuit and observe the meter voltage.



    4. The DVM will display the difference in voltage between the two points.

    To pin point the component/connection responsible for the voltage drop, move the negative test lead to the next component/connection (point B) in the circuit and retest at additional points as necessary. Changes in the Voltage Drop Reading indicate where excessive Voltage Drop is located.



    To test for a Voltage Drop on the Ground side of a circuit, (figure 2) follow the steps below.



    1) Connect the negative test lead of a Digital Volt/Ohm meter (DVOM) to the negative battery terminal. Use of an analog meter is not recommended because damage to the meter could result from improper polarity.



    2) Connect the positive test lead to the ground terminal/wire at the unit being tested (point A).



    3) Operate the circuit and observe the meter voltage.



    4) The DVM will display the difference in voltage between the two points.

Why does my 2003 Yukon XL turn over but won't start?


Does fuel pump run ? Remove fuel cap. Have someone crank it for you,you should hear fuel pump running. If not bang on bottom of tank while cranking. If it starts fuel pump will need replacing , if not check for power to pump, if it has power,replace pump. If no power, check relay for operation

My 94 Buick Century wont start? Trying to figure out if it is the starter...I hear fuel pump engaging light and everything work. when I go to start does nothing...


Check your battery voltage, sound to me like your battery cold cranking amps is low. Its enough the power the lights but not turn the engine over. Have the battery replace

How do u prime a fuel pump


If you're referring to a fuel injected gasoline vehicle, self prime takes place at key start. If you still feel the need to have the computer repeat this process (or re- self prime), turn the key all the way until the dash lights come on, then turn off. Repeat this 5 times then attempt to start. If all the windows are closed and the radio is off, when you turn key on with engine off, you'll hear the fuel pump at the rear of vehicle buzz or hum as it's priming the system.

I have a Mercedes 2003 C230. Checked my Fuel line, Fire to Ignition, and Change Camshaft Position Sensors. Car Cranks but still does not start. What else should I look at?


Turn the key and listen for a hum (keep doors closed but a window down and radio off). Don't turn the key all the way to try to crank it, just the turn to get all the lights in the dash on. If you hear a slight hum or buzz that last a second or two that is your fuel pump. If you don't hear it, check your fuse for the fuel pump, if that is not blown, your fuel pump may have gone out.

97 dodge neon will not start, once in a while


Do you have sufficient power to the vehicle? Do the lights work and radio? If not your battery is low, if yes than your starter solenoid may have failed. Since there is absolutely nothing, I take it you hear no cranking or igniting. correct?

2003 Sonoma does not turn-over


U have lost the battery, check the cables, if they are clean (no corrsion) replace the battery, modern sealed batteries fail like this, crank fine and then puff nothing, happened to at least 5 times over the years and saw it all the time at work.
