Not a good idea. It is there for a reason.

Still, if you are so inclined to do so, first obtain a reapir maual from your auto parts store.

It is located in steering column.

    Haynnes manuals have wiring schematics.

Why do i have to put my car in neutural to start it

Simple the park start switch isn't functioning. If I remember correctly that is located in the center shifter console. Try pressing the shifter further toward the park setting. If it works now you may wish to adjust the shifter cable in the console. Otherwise take an allen wrench and loosen the retainer screw on the shifter and pull it off. Now remove the shroud to the console. With the console cover off you may be able to see the problem, but if everything stilll looks perfect and it still doesn't work replace the switch.

Have a 2005 PT Cruiser, automatic transmission that will not start. Key turns and all lights and accesaries come on. No clicking, and does not crank, Battery has good voltage. This happened a couple of...

My thought is the neutral safety switch is failing., or the gear selector linkage is out of adjustment-im not familiar with pt cruiser drivetrains, but the neutral safety switch allows a vehicle to start in only park, or neutral. Switch is located somewhere on the trans housing. Loose gear selector linkage can also be the culprit. My advice is to purchase a haynes, or chiltons repair manual specific to your cruiser's model year and follow the troubleshooting sequence for each. this will save you a lot of cash-

Where is the neutural safety switch located. The one that allows you to operate the auto transmission when the brake is applied?

Hi, welcome to FixYa.com my name is Shawn and I will be answering your question.

Sounds like you are looking for the shift interlock solenoid located on the steering column. If the car won't shift out of park first check your brake lights and make sure they work. This is normally caused by a faulty brake light switch located on the brake pedal or a broken wiring connector to the brake switch. You can bypass this by putting the car in neutral then starting it.

I hope my assistance helped you and resolved your concern, if you need further assistance please as

Hello! The Inhibitor relay is more than likely not pulling...If the vehicle is an automatic the selector switch passes battery when in park on a yellow wire to the relay...If a standard the clutch switch passes ground...if manual, relay is called clutch interlock...located under hood...passenger side fender...Automatic...called interlock relay...drivers side fender to the right of air intake...diagram may be to small to read but I'm limited on size...Light Green wire on clutch switch supplies ground when switch is closed pulling relay...Yellow wire off gear selector switch (park) supplies battery to the inhibitor relay...Wish I knew if your vehicle was man. or auto...See if proper batt. or gnd. is present to pull relay...If proper potential is present and the relay does not pull it is defective...Send a comment...

Were is the neurtal safety switch located

It has generally been connected to the transmission gear selector, so that it allows the starter to be engaged only when in park or neutral. It usually has the reverse light switch in the same switch body.
Pull the console up and look at the bottom of the gear selector.

When I have a no start condition I work the maul selector from park to low 1 back and forth and the car starts

Your safety interlock switch is going out or is not adjusted properly. There is a procedure for adjusting the switch. The switch is on the transmission in the engine compartment. If you want to adjust the switch, loosen the botls holding the switch and follow steps 7-8 below. Else, you can just replace the switch entirely by following all steps.

The neutral start and backup switch are one unit mounted on the top left end of the transaxle. The neutral start portion of the switch allows electrical current to travel to the ignition system when the shift selector is in park or neutral only. The vehicle will not start when the selector is in any other gear. The backup portion operates the rear backup lamps when selector is in the reverse gear.

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION See Figures 1 and 2

  1. Make sure the shift selector in the Park position, then apply the emergency brake.
  2. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  3. Disengage the neutral start switch electrical connector, then remove the shift control lever on top of the switch.
  4. Remove the two neutral switch attaching bolts, then remove the switch.

To install:

  1. Install the switch on the manual shaft.
  2. Loosely install the two attaching bolts and washers.
  3. Insert a No. 43 drill (0.089 in.) through the hole.
  4. Tighten the attaching bolts to 7-9 ft. lbs. (9-12 Nm), then remove the drill.
  5. Engage the switch electrical connector, then connect the negative battery cable.

Cant change gear from park to drive

its a safety switch located either on the brake pedal support or the safety release located in the steering column.
you press the brake pedal and the switch sends power to the release, that allows you to shift the gear selector out of park.

1998 Expeditio 5.4 eddie Bauer rarely starts in park mostly in Neutural, any ideas?

The park switch is located on the bottom drivers side of the transmission. You'll recognize it by the lever sticking out of the transmission and the semi-circular switch mounted below it. It should have two bolts or nut's that adjust that switch. It's very sensitive so it might take a little tweaking to get it right on the money. You'll probably have to move the switch just a touch counterclockwise. A couple of minutes of playing with it (and a few times in and out from under the truck) you can get it dialed in.
