Question about Mazda 323

1 Answer

Have a 1990 323 1500cc fuel injected DOHC. It is hard to start, appears to be flooding. When it does start, it surges at idle and hesitates when the accelerator is pressed even the smallest amount. Help?

Check air filter for replacement ... you should be able to see light through it, if not replace. This is the cheapest and easiest thing that might cause the problem ... about $8 if you need one.

Engine floods when started, replaced oxegen sensor, fuel flow regulator, fuel filter would maf sensor or the idle arm control cause this flooding

Generally, the first thing to check with an engine that floods on warm start is the water temperature sensor that talks to the fuel injection system. The only way the fuel injection system knows how much fuel to supply right after startup is by checking the water temperature. If the sensor says the water is cold, the fuel injection system will supply a lot of fuel. If the reading is in the valid range (just inaccurate) the computer will not recognize that the sensor is bad.
There are other possible problems, but this is where I would start. Someone needs to measure the resistance across this sensor and compare it to a chart in the manual to see if the resistance is correct for the current temperature that the sensor is seeing.

Try the idle air control valve since it raises the idle when you turn on a load to the engine.

Runs rough till warmed up. Hesitates. I put a new

Ok, you got new 02 sensors, that is good, Now check timing, vacuum hoses for leaks, check for headgasket leak with compression test, Check or change fuel filter and plug wires. If fuel injected, try using injector cleaner and you can also remove one injector at a time to make sure it is not leaking or plugged. You can also test throttle position sensor and idle position sensor with an ohmmeter to see if they are good.

2000 Yukon Hard to start, rough accelleration

First things first. The morter is direct injection, no throttle body. The injectors inject fuel directly into the cylinder. A few possible simple causes. Bad gas is and can always be a contender (my mom had the exact same issue with it stalling). Try putting some water remover in the tank and going to a station that has lots of traffic (gas doesn't sit as long and is less likely to have water in it). Also you can use Lucus fuel treatment in each fill up to help prevent fuel breaking down. The injectors could possibly be going bad (hard start, hesitation are also signs of injectors) but could also be a failing fuel pump or fuel filter may be geting plugged. Also the CPS crank position snesor which would also contribute to this issue. I would start by taking it to the local parts store for code scanning to see if it points you anywhere specific first and if not then start with the cheapest things first or have a no start diagnostics performed at a service shop..

95 toyota 4runner running bad. can not figure it out.

Check the timing and compression of the engine. It sounds like you either have a blown head gasket or a the timing jumped.
