Severe vibration from engine

Engine: 4.0L SOHC - 4x4 - Sever buzzing vibration starts at about 2300 RPM and then smooths out at around 4000 RPM. Checked exhaust, removed accessory belt, replaced torque converter and transmission, rebalanced drive shaft, replaced all shocks, rebuilt front suspension, rebuilt rear differential, no cure. Vibration is present whether driving or standing still, in gear or neutral, with accessory belt on or off. It is bad enough to blur all of the mirrors. Any ideas?

Probably not harmonic balancer, but check it for wobbling. The V6 Mustangs had lots of bad crank pulleys replaced.
Hope its NOT main bearings, like was said. don-ohio

Something similar happened to my van, and it ended up being that I needed to replace a tie rod in one of my wheels. Hope this helps! I know this was posted awhile ago.

SOURCE: severe vibration

Replace balancer. You don't notice them until you rev it up.

SOURCE: F150 2003 5.4L Vibration throughout truck with acceleration

When you say "throughout" that would indicate that it is coming from the rear of the truck..

There could be a number things causing this..

It could be a bad tire or a broken belt on a tire..
A test for this is - roll along at 3 miles per hour.. If you feel a wobble - that is probably a broken belt in a tire..
Or maybe even a bent axle..

It could be a bad universal in the drive shaft..

It could be a broken shock/strut or mount or both..

Best of luck !

Ill answer in the generic and for GAS engines. only.
that is illegal RPM, the ECU regulates it to 800 all the time
that means the ECU can not regulate the RPM now, for many reasons.
and sure it vibrates too low, that is normal for all 4cylinders to do that.
no bad engine mounts never lower RPM to 600, ever.
they dont control idle speed at all.
the #1 reason for most cars to idle too low are:
1: EGR leaks, (clean it)
2: ISC stuck closed (electric idle speed acututor dirty) clean it.
3: gross misfiring , caused by bad spark or bad fuel mix.
4: low compression on 1 or more cylinders (real low) Do compression test at WOT. throttle.

I've changed my engine mounts 3 times on my 2004 A4 cabreolet and they fail within miles(start to vibrate & then within a week, severe knocking) the 2nd time, also changed the ****** mount, 3r

Engine mounts do not go bad in five miles. Sounds like you're treating a symptom and not the cause of a more serious issue. Are you sure all cylinders are firing correctly? That the severe knocking is not coming from your engine internals? Have you checked the steel around the engine mounting points for cracks or other damage? And just in case, if the mounts you are using are poly, are you lubing them before installation?

Engine vibrates when idiling in drive only does not vibrate in park or neutral or reverse has new motor supports (all) recent tuneup cant determine cause (the motor runs so smooth except while idiling then...

Check your throttle body gasket, if it's leaking unmetered air it will idle high, this coupled with a bad ignition coil, plugs not properly gapped or old/worn as well as old/worn spark plug wires will cause a misfire that may not trip the CEL light. Also check your idle air control valve to ensure it's working and clean on the inside of the throttle body.

2000 Dodge Dakota vibration while driving

sound like the u-joints in the driveshaft. Lay under the truck and where the u-joints are try moving the driveshaft up and down. If it moves then the u-joints are bed. This will cause a tremendous vibration under a load and the faster it spins it will smooth out.

1999 Lincoln Continental 4.6 32v engine...idles smooth in park & in gear. In park I get a engine miss when revved to 4000rpm. Also seem/feels like I have a miss at lower engine speed when being driven....

hello, i first must ask why that engine would EVER be reved to 4000 RPM? it is likely you are up against the rev-limiter and your ignition is made not to over rev. be very careful....4000 RPM on that engine could/will severly damage your tourque convertor........very expensive it is common for the EGR passages on that model to plug up with carbon, remove valve, clean ports, and retest for low speed miss/hesitation, good luck....marty
