Question about 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee

No start / key will not turn - will not locked

My key will not turn in the ignition... the car beeps while the door is open... the wheel is not locked... everything electrical still works... i have tried three different keys to see if it was just worn down... I think it is worn out on the inside of the tumbler (what the key actually slides into).

Any thoughts? Where can I order a new tumbler? can I replace it myself??

Thanks.

I have a 2001 jeep grand and i have the same problem, in august it did it and thought it was the tumblers and had my jeep towed home. the next day the key turned fine. the dealership said nothing was wrong. has worked fine for 3 months and today it happened again. I rocked it back in forth, turned the wheel back and forth and pushed it tighter into park. still would not turn, came home from work 8 hrs later and the key turned just fine...if you have any ideas or info contact me.

My keys open the door but wont let me start my car

insert your key into the ignition, try wiggling the steering wheel at the same time trying to turn your key to start. sometimes ignitions lock when the vehicles parked in a bind or on hill or wheels turned hard one way or other. you can also try flipping your key over and inserting it into the switch. it really seems to me that your problems a locked wheel though. if you have some 3in 1 household oil,it would'nt hurt to oil that key.hope this helps, and please let us know. as always, you can repost your question for more input from other experts.thank you for choosing fixya.com

You have to change out the ignition I just went through that with mine 2000 and it had to do with the button on the gear shift and lock in ignition switch.
