How can i tell if my timing belt is working in my 98 kia sephia without taking it apart

If the engine starts and runs, its OK. If the engine turns when you try to start, its probably OK. If the engine won't turn over at all, it could be the starter motor. You should usually hear a click if the starter tries to engage the flywheel. If nothing happens at all, check that the battery is OK. If still no joy, have it towed to the garage.

Citroen Despatch turns over but won't start, not battery problem

Fuel delivery, probably.

Try the following - remove the airbox and spray some starter fluid into the throttle body while someone else cranks the engine. If it tries to start up/run for a few seconds, then you know it's a fuel problem. If it doesn't change anything, then it's most likely a spark issue.

Check the plugs/wires/etc for fouling.

Sounds like a weak fuel pump check your fuel pressure. It should be 40-47 psi with key on engine off and with key on engine running it should be 30-44 psi if its not within specs replace fuel pump.

Bought my '90 Jetta few months back and ever since i got it, its had a small hesitation problem and isuues with cold starting. After doing a tune up and replacing the spark plugs, dist. cap, rotor, and...

I have worked on VW's in the past and one thing that I have found to be a problem for many is the plug wires and the coil wire need to be coated with Di-Electric grease. This prevents moisture from building up and when the moisture does get in there, the moisture causes misfire or no fire at all. Make sure it's dry inside the boots before you apply this.. Good Luck.

Engine

First of all not sure what you mean by back realy!
Is there a engine check light on!
if not check there is ignitiion spark. oldschool way is to take a spark plug out and earth it while its still attached to the ht lead or coil plug and turn engine over and look for spark. No spark check coli pack resitance.and cank angle sensor. Check fuel by listening for fuel pump working when ignitiion key is turned. but better to use fuel pressure tester if avalible.smell and look at spark plugs for unburnt fuel which would indicate no spark but fuel. Put it this way as long as there is fuel, spark and a fully charged battery it should try and start. take one of these away and you got proplems

IT PROBABLY IS THE STARTER. CHECK TO SEE IF THE ENGINE TURNS OVER BY WATCHING OR HAVING SOMEONE WATCH THE FAN OR FRONT PULLEYS AS YOU TRY STARTING IT.

1990 gt4 fails to start have tried jump starting but engine still fails to turn over

Hi tracysteve,

First thing to check...Does the engine turn at all?....is the coolant level correct....and the engine oil?.... If all that's OK....take a spanner and put it on the crank shaft center bolts (middle of the pulley) and try to rotate the engine..... Once you've confirmed that it turns.....remove the battery terminals and clean them....Also have the battery checked.... Still no joy?.... Is there a clicking sound when you try to start? If the answers yes.....You probably have a problem with the starter motor....Check the connections to the starter and also the starter relay.....

Let me know how you get on?
