It depends a lot on what caused the radiator to crack and what happened afterwards.
If the radiator cracked due to frost damage then mechanical damage to engine components is a possibility. One of the consequences of a frozen radiator can be serious overheating as the flow of coolant is prevented.
The consequences of overheating however it was caused can be engine damage from the head gasket to serious damage of engine components and a few basic checks could indicate if the engine is still mechanically sound.
A large quantity of coolant being lost suddenly can find its way into the ignition system preventing the spark.
You have oil leaking into the antifreeze and if this is happening you also have antifreeze leaking into engine oil could be head gasket or intake manifold gasket or cracked engine block Has the engine over heated resently at any rate antifreeze in the oil is vary bad and will distroy the engines oil ability to lubericate the engine parts
could becoming from ur oil cooler lines that go into rad,,,could have internal crack in rad,,,pull dip stick out & ck to see if motor oil is low or a grayish color,,if ok ck trans fluid to see if is low,,have to find out what kind of oil residua is in the over flow jug
It sounds like you have air in the Cooling system and the bars leak permanent seal does not help. The sealer creates restrictions through out the water jackets and can cause the thermostat to stick. Replace the radiator cap and run the truck with the radiator cap on the first click and keep an eye on the over flow tank, refill the over flow as needed and make sure you have the heater on the highest setting to work out all the air in the system. Once all the air has worked it's way out of the system, then you can close the radiator cap to the second click to ensure full pressure is built up in your cooling system. If you're running it without a thermostat it's clear there isn't enough/any coolant circulating through the block. When the motor is running are the hoses off the radiator soft and flexible or stiff. If they're soft there's no coolant flowing through them. Chances are the radiator core is bad or there is a crack in it somewhere. Have it removed and tested.
Your thermostat could be bad, getting stuck. I had that happen. While driving down the road I noticed the guage went way over to the hot side then went back. I changed it and all is well. It will run hot if there is something blocking the air flow through your radiator. Good clean oil up to the fill line will help your engine run cooler. If you havent changed your oil and filter lately, the oil filter may be clogged (full) and the oil is bypassing it. This will leave gunk and metal parts in the oil that make the oil hotter than it should be. Make sure your coolant level is topped off and you have antifreeze in it. The proper mixture of antifreeze helps keep an engine cool. If there is too much grease and oil buildup on the outside of your engine it will run hotter because the air flow cannot reach the metal and cool it off. Is your radiator clogged. Some people, if they have a leak in the radiator will use stuff to seal it from the inside. These additives can clog the radiator. HAVE YOU RECENTLY WORK ON ANY REPLACEMENT FOR YOUR THERMOSTAT? Are you sure you have the right thermostat ?
If the odor is not heavy gasoline, then they appear to be oil fouled. The cheap fix is to buy at any auto parts store oil burning plugs or sleeves, these will keep the spark plugs slightly further out of the cylinder, out of the oils way, and should provide a reasonable resolution.
Check the PCV valve and hose, if they clog they will cause oil to enter engien cylinders. keep me posted
