Do compression test and tk test the tk test is actually kinda cool it passes the gasses from ur colling system through a liquid that changes colors if there is any sign of combustion chamber gases in it but the compression test is much cheaper and easier but if you have faulty valve seats or you piston rings leak it could give you a misleading result and does it matter if your on the highway or in the city over heating in city indicates fan due to low speeds and poor cooling in the radiator but if it overheats no matter what it could be the head gasket or the water pump also check to see if you are lossing fluid like a drip or something or even if you cant see a drip your heater core could be leaking inside the car so fill it up and minitor ur fluid levels first to determine if you have a leak

You should have what is known as a TK head test done.Very effective in isolating wether you have combustion chamber gases escaping into the cooling system.Take all the spark plugs out and check to see if there is any sign of water on them.Is the fan working correctly?

My Mitsubishi eclipse 2003 overheats when I stand in traffic. Temperature goes up, like crazy. At the shop they said it's thermostat, so I changed it. Everything is still the same. Plus in winter is...

The two statements are contradictory. The thermostat should assist in warming up the engine in the cold but if it is stuck closed it would overheat but warm up quickly. Overheating in the summer could be the fan not kicking in in traffic. You can check a thermostat by boiling it in water and observing the temperature at which it starts to open. This information should be stamped on the unit. You can also watch the fan to see if it kicks in with the engine idling when hot. If it does not it could be the thermostatic switch or the fan itself.

I have a 96 regular mitsu and it keeps overheating i have changed the thermostat and the fan works what else can i check

You might need to take into the shop and have them check to see if there is a head gasket issue. Other possiblity is the impeller on the water pump is broken, ie; the impeller blades are broken off or rusted away.

Running hot

Check the Tension on the Belt. If it is not tight enough or you need a New Tensioner for the Belt, It will run hot. It is not letting the Water Pump Cool the Motor fast enough. You might also Check the Radiator. If the Radiator is Even a Little Clogged, It will overheat. Also, Check the Fan clutch, If it is not working Properly, You will overheat. Let me know what you find!
