1995 Saturn SL1 starting problem

I have a 95 Saturn SL1 that has completely baffled me. Every morning it starts up fine. As soon as the car seems to warm up it pops the engine service light on and off. That’s not the problem, the problem is any and every time you stop, shut the engine off it will not start. It tries but acts like its not getting enough fuel. Let it sit for several hours, again it will start right up. Sometimes when you put it in park the engine idle will go way up and the engine stalls. I have had all kinds of advice but still problem exists. I get a code 15 on my scanner. What I have replaced so far is the coolant sensor, the canister purge solenoid, the crank shaft sensor, the fuel pump and regulator, fuel filter, I picked up a used PCM changed it out and still have the same problem. If any one has a clue what could be wrong with this car please help me out. I going broke trying to figure it out.

Change the cam positioning sensor,not the crank sensor,

Drain Trans,Remove lower ball joint nut & separate the knuckle from ball joint.Remove 30mm axle nut & gently pry out the axle from trans then tap out axle from hub.

i just did a car today for nissan 1996 had light on with code po1447 turned out to be purge canister its just a mushroom shaped piece of plastic with 3 vacuum hoses gong to it..

SOURCE: where is the purge solenoid and canister on a 1996...

its on the drivers side, behind the rear tire, under the plastic cover. To remove it, lift the rear of the car with ramps and remove the plastic cover under the tire.

The plugs are wet so its not a fuel problem its a spark/ignition problem. Check the plugs connected to the correct wires. remove one plug and with its wire still on it tie it down to a metal part on the engine. Turn the engine over and look for a spark on the plug, is there one?

1995 saturn sl1 not starting. the battery is fine its just when i try to turn it over to start the car i dont hear any sign that the car is trying to start.


I had issues with my 1999 doing similar problems. Ended up having "burning and arching" with the fusebox and replaced it. In addition to not starting various electrical components wouldn't work like radio, rear defrost, remote control keyless entry...

Have you resistance checked the injectors. If the resistance is wrong the pcm will shut the injector drivers down.

2002 Saturn SL1 - won't start, turn over, starts fine with jump


Have the alternator and battery checked. The battery may not be holding a charge. The alternator may not be charging the battery,it should put out between 14 and 15 volts,any less the alternator is bad.

Starting issues


this is most likely caused by a burnt set contacts in the starter motor solenoid (very common problem), u can repair the solenoid or just replace the starter. the parts are avail at Iowa motor parts.com
