1997 Ford Escort wagon air bag light blinks when car is runnning
I encountered this problem when the voltage regulator attached to the alternator malfunctioned. It also caused the battery to over charge. The problem was corrected by replacing the alternator. Hope this helps.

You can have the airbag light tested for the trouble code that is making the light blink, the most likely cause is the rotating contact that connects the steering wheel airbag to the steering column wiring, it is called the clock-spring contact, if you replace this part yourself make sure to follow factory procedures for disarming the airbag, if you don't and it goes off you will have a good chance of being injured or worse.
