Thats the evap system. The fuel tank has to deal with 2 types of pressure think of a gas can. Leave a 1/4 full gas can in sunlight it expands then leave it in the shade it contracts. There are preventive measure preventing the fuel tank from expanind and rupturing or imploding..The evap system is working

SOURCE: location of the Heat resistor in a 2003 Chevy Malibu?

Under the glove box, behind the blower motor itself. Remove the shroud below glove box, 2 screws and a snap-pop fitting. Be careful of the courtesy light. Remove the blower moter and disconnect the purple/black power connector to it - - you'll need this extra room to work with. 2 more screws, same size, 6.5mm on mine, 7or 8mm on some others, that holds the blower motor resistor in place. This replacement part is less than 40 bones at most parts store. Unplug, replace, re-install, test and you're on your way with about 2 hours of slow paced effort in your own driveway. Typical cost at a garage - up to $400, what a sham.

SOURCE: 2002 chevy malibu. Ran yesterday. Won't start

Cheak your fuse under the drivers side under the hood. Look in your manuel for fuel fuse. It looks like a little black box.

Only if theft light is flashing, then it would need to be reset, to reset turn key to on and wait till theft light stops flashing about 10mim or so, then turn key to off and back to start engine.

My 2003 chevy malibu cranks but wont start. battery is good and altenator is good

To clarify - - if the engine cranks the battery and starter are ok.
The alternator does not come into play until the engine is running.
If it cranks but won't start, you have to figure out if you are missing fuel to the injectors or spark to the plugs to proceed.
A mechanic would check that and if there are any trouble codes stored in the computer.

My 03 POS Malibu has had $4,000 in repairs the last few years. Now it won't start after driving! Have to wait an hour or so.

Are there any lights on the dash when this happens? Look for a light that says security or antitheft. If you see this, go to this link. That would explain the symptoms

2003 Hyundai Elantra It sounds the backfiring

At first blush, sounds like the knock sensor making the car misfire. Other possibilities are:
  • fouled spark plug; might not notice it at idle but would misfire at higher speeds; check the plugs as well as the valve cover gasket for oil seepage
  • if you've noticed a sulphur smelling exhaust or excessive heat from the exhaust, it could be the catalytic converter (more likely if there is high mileage on the car). Another symptom would be very bad performance and poor gas mileage.
