Question about 2002 Ford Escape

1 Answer

Warning Lights I have a 2002 Ford Escape. My airbag light flashes on/off, then just stays on. Also, the light that's next to it (square with wavy lines, I guess it represents fluid), use to go out seconds after I start my car, now it takes minutes, why?

The airbag light is on most likely due to an open circuit in the rotating electrical contact ribbon under the steering wheel, it is called the clock-spring for short, a very common failure. As far as the coolant light, check the level, if you are not sure of the indicator here is a link to your owners manual from a Ford web site.

B1801 Ford Escape 2002. The air bag light comes on the instrument panel in my vehicle and will stay on for a while then go away. I had someone test it for me and told me it was code B1801. It was at a...

Did you disconnect the battery recently...did you operate the horn.both questions related to what may originally cause the airbag warning light to stay on.if it was the battery being changed reconnected then you have to reset the airbag light.this is quite simple on Fords.
with the engine off ....ignition key into the lock open the drivers door and keep it open ....locate the button at the bottom of door for courtesy light....hold your finger on it...turn the ignition on so that only the lights on dash come not start press the door button 6 times within ten seconds and on the last count of six hold it in whilst turning off the ignition.then close the drivers door and start.the airbag light usually flashes for several seconds then it should clear.on some model fords the button press count is 5 or 7 so you may need to repeat ....on mine I discovered I had to open the passenger door after the procedure before turning ignition back on.a word about the horn.on older model fords the springs that sit in the horn housing also affect the sensor of the airbag in some models .the springs gets rusty or bunged up and operating it will cause the airbag sensor fault.never attempt to remove the cover of the horn assembly as you may fire off the airbag.just remember to reset the warning light... And get a mechanic to look at the horn if it continues to play up.Please remember if the airbag warning light is flashing it may mean the airbag will be disabled and will not deploy in the event of an accident, this also means the seatbelts may not lock on impact either.please vote if helpful thanks.

The odometer light is out on my 2002 Ford Escape. This is a new issue. The air bag passenger side warning light comes on after 5 minutes of driving. The air bag warning light has been an ongoing issue....

The airbag light is probably an issue with the connector under your front seats. Look under the seats and you'll see the cables. Do NOT disconnect them. Just push them in tight. See if the light problem goes away. The conenctor gets off kilter when you put the head rests (from the back seat) under the front seat. Toss them in the back from now on.

BTW: You can get the computer to tell you the problem code with the air bag simply by watching the airbag lamp flash when you turn the key to 'on'. It will flash with short and long pauses. Count the flashes for each digit. For instance, 4 quick flashes, a pause, and then 3 flashes equals code 43. Then do a Google search of ford airbag code /your number here/. Odds are its the passenger side airbag connector. Do what I said above.

If you get tempted to disconent the cable, PLEASE do some google searching first. I 'think' this could cause a problem. Maybe not. But I only needed to push my connector in tighter to fix my problem.

Slow beeping sound without warning light on 2002 Escape

IF you do not show any Warning Lights. You may have a bad bulb. Pull the Frame from around the Speedometer Dash and then unplug the cables and then Get a meter and and check continuity on the bulbs. They are pretty easy to twist & pull out. I had a warning sound the same as yours . Metered it out and found the Airbag is Bad. Wich is also attached to the Horn. Bad way to do things. Anyways try that.Circuspyro
