My automatic transmission would not shift gears unless I shifted them my self. I bought the car that way and have driven it over a year now. Well I got tire of shifting an automatic so I bought another transmission and had it installed. It still does the same thing..... WHY?????? ...... It has to be something simple. I am disabled and this is my only car. I can drive it fine, but if something happens to me and my wife has to drive it then we are screwed. She just can't seem to learn to shift the thing.
There is a transmission controller that is located under the dash beside the right hand side of the steering column. It is held on to a bracket by two 10mm bolts. A change in that transmission control computer will make the transmission shift like new

Where would this be located?? I heard it might be some kind of sensor but don't have a clue as to where it is.
Thanks.!!
My 94 is the same way, and has been that way for a year or so, but now I think the clutches are slipping, it mainly does this when it is cold outside, I am going to pull my transmission out and have guy look at it I will write back my findings later, the transmission guy also spoke of a sensor that might be the problem. More to come

i have the same problem. how much would it cost to fix the transmission controller?
There is a tranny computer in the old geo's. Our 94 metro was the same way and we went to a junk yard and pulled a tran. computer from one there (alot cheaper than the $100 plus for a new one). It solved the problem and ran like new. No more having to shift an automatic. HTH Megan
