Do you see a light on the dash that says "security" when this happens? This might be your problem. When this light is on, it disables the starter. Check out this link for info and ways to fox this yourself. http://vatspasslockpasskeysecurityhelp.yolasite.com/
Ensure that your battery is fully charged before attempting the relearn procedure. Do not leave any battery charger or jumper cables attached to the battery. Close the hood completely. Some applications require that the doors remain closed during the procedure. 00 + GM 1. Rotate the key to the start position to attempt to start the vehicle (the vehicle will not start). Allow the key to return to the on position. (same as if the vehicle would have started) 2. The theft system light will flash (or stay lit) on the dash for approximately 10 minutes. 3. When the theft system telltale stops flashing (or turns off) turn the key to the off position for 5 seconds and then attempt to start the vehicle. 4. Repeat steps 1 through 3 two more times for a total of 3 cycles/30 minutes. 5. On the next cycle of turning the ignition key from off to crank the vehicle should start 6. Once the vehicle is running, the password is learned and this completes the cycle. 7. Clear any DTC's with a scan tool if necessary. DTC history will be cleared after 100 ignition cycles. Good luck and thank you for using fixya, keep us posted.
No. Your description could be several issues. You need to determine if the ignition is coming on when the problem occurs or not, this will eliminate the ignition side of the system from being the problem.
I suspect that the fuel pump is not running when this occurs. Next time this problem happens, just turn the ignition on and listen for the fuel pump. It should run for a short time and then stop. I had this same symptom and it was the wiring (ground wire) going to the fuel pump. Took a long time to actually figure out exactly what was wrong, but we haven't had a problem since.
First place to check is the battery. Old ones can push your lights , radio, etc, but the starter is the real load. . Can verify this by using jumper cables to a running vehicle and watch your machine fire right up! The reason mornings are the worst, is the battery has had the most time to discharge, and it is probably cooler outside.
