These engines had some issues with headgaskets leaking coolant externally. It is a small leak and usually only when hot, so there is no puddle because the coolant evaporates before it gets off of the block.

Get under the vehicle and, using a light, look at the rear face of both cylinder heads. If you see a greenish-white stain, that's the issue. This is a very labor-intensive job and should only be attempted by a qualified technician. I don't know your experience level, so I can't say whether you should try this yourself or not.

If you don't see any staining, a cooling system pressure test would be in order.

If you're located somewhere in central Pennsylvania, I could probably help you out.

Hope this is helpful!

2006 jeep grand cherokee check gas cap error

Hi there, I'm AL the owner of Big As Auto Repair in St Charles Mo

The "Gas Cap Loose" is a common problem when someone leaves the cap slightly loose, when tightening the cap you must hear the clicks to make sure its tight. The code is there just to let you know the cap is loose.

However, I have found that the gas cap itself was leaking and in some cases the area where the cap tightens had a defect causing it to leak. Unfortunately, a smoke check is the only way to pin-point what is causing the problem. Before spending that money!

The first thing you need to do, just to make sure is replace the cap and tighten it hearing three clicks then let it run-out 40 key cycles to see if it reset, if it doesn't reset then you know you have an issue that needs to be repaired. 2001 pontiac sunfire will not hold any antifreeze, why and whats wrong with my car????

General advice:U must track the leak .How much it takes to loose the coolant?.If the coolant shows under the car must identify the tubes clamps that need tighten or replace. If a radiator related problem need clean/solder/replace.If leaky water pump, replace. If no trace of coolant ceck the oil.If is color altered(milky)u have a head gasket ahead (with head revision)or a broken engine block/piston cyclinder. If the oil is ok,ceck the smoke:whity smoke means coolant in the pistons head.Again best guess:head gasket (can leak also in the intake manifold).Very rare coolant shows in some cars in the power stearing oil (!?) track the tubes.Tip:colored coolant (green...)is better visible in leaks.Tip:water coolant may show rusty spots where dissapearing (radiator, expansion deposit, pitched tube).Hope u deal it.Cheers.

Check engine code p0455

P0455 means a gross leak detected in the Evaporative Emissions System. Some call this a "gas cap" code, because the most common cause a loose or failed gas cap. But it could be caused by any vapor leak in the fuel tank, filler neck, or anywhere else in the vapor management system. If it isn't a gas cap, you will need tol take it someplace where they have a smoke machine that can find the leak using smoke.

Gross emissions leak

You will need to have a smoke test done on the fuel vapor emission storage system. Contact a local shop for this test.

I have 90 toyota 2.4 liter pickup. Its loosing coolant and dont know where its going. Has new t stat, new radiator, new fan clutch, new water pump. Oil isnt milkie and does not smoke. Help!

i would do a compresstion test. If you cant see it loseing coolant on the ground it has to be in the motor, if the oil not milkie and you dont see smoke. ok fell the radiator up with water and let it get to warmed up dont drive it let it get warm. after it warms up open the hood look at your hoses be careful the coolent/water will be hot. first look at all the hoses see if any are swollen or cracked becareful give the motor little rpm like 2000 rpm's this will put more presher in the coolent system and you should see a leak if there is one lot of time you cant see if its leaking after you drive it some holes are very small if you cant find it let me know and i will have you try something else. theres 2 things there for you to try

2005 chevrolet z-71 Truck overheating changed water pump and thermostat

Check for any signs of water leaking to the ground and if you do locate a leak follow the path. There could be a leak from the drain plugs, water jacket freeze plugs, water pump seals, the coolent temp switch, damaged gaskets, or a small crack somewhere in the coolent system. Check all hoses to see if they leaking or loose at clamps and connections. And if you cannot find a leak anywhere. check the radiater core or header tank, if the leak is in the radiater you should remove and replace, or have professionally repaired. Still can't find any leak. Ckeck your oil for water or foam. And if you do see that it is here, it's most likely a head gasket leak.

Obd code p1478 on 328ci cant find what it is.

This code can be generated by putting gas in vehicle while engine running, loose fuel cap, bad hoses on the evaporator clear codes tighten gas cap see if it returns. when tightening fuel cap turn it three clicks minimum. If that is not the case then you will have to perform a smoke test on the fuel system to determine where your evaporator leak is at, any competent repair shop will have the special equipment to perform this test..Good Luck Tim

Antifreeze leaking even after a new radiator. What could be the problem?

Take it to a radiator shop and have them run a dye test. They will put some dye in the radiator and then pressurize the system. The leak will show up under a black light. If you are loosing coolant with no apparent leak then you may have a blown head gasket. Symptoms are, white smoke from the exhaust, oil level overfull, air bubbles escaping from the radiator, and a white foamy substance under the oil fill cap.
