How do fix the glove compartment latch

Glove door or latch could be broken.

Find another Kia Sportage and look at that working glove box to see what you should do to fix yours. It helps if you or a friend is "mechanically inclined".

If you look under glove box you will see two to four screws that hold the glove box on. Take out the screws and the glove box will drop down and you can get inside and release latch..then you can get a replacement latch and replace.

unlock it as you would normally while pushing back on the locking mechanism

try to get some penetrating oil in/on the latch... 3 in 1 oil or something

Remove side clips holding the glove compartment into the console and unhook the elastic string that guides the compartment. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Yes, it shouldn't be too hard either. However, have you tried to unlatch it? I had that happen to me. I shut an envelope in it and the latch locked. Try pulling the handle and take a screwdriver and try to move the latch back out.

There should be a button somewhere around or next to the glove box latch that acts as a switch to turn the light off, when you close the glove box it pushes the button in, it sounds like the button is stuck.

hello / if you move the glove box door from side to side when pulling on it , it will open one side first and then the other side . it has 2 hooks one left and one right / hard to explain ,/
