Question about 2000 Alfa Romeo 156
I work for ALFA ROMEO and the issue is the the aerial in the car around the ignition barrel.. it is the reciever for the transponder in the key, i have seen this issue 30+ times
not to dear to replace at a dealer, approx $160 Aus

I had the exact same problem! it was sooo stressful.. what i did was i had a technician change the starting motor of the engine, ( i dont if it's called like that in english) it;s not very expensive, the problem disappeared forever since then.. i can't guarantee anything though.. but good luck!

Probably the best shot is to bring it to your local dealer where they can reprogram your key.
