Question about 2000 Volkswagen Golf
Assuming the battery is O..K,
Have the batter checked out
The window working is not a sufficient test since starter takes a far more juice from battery than windows.
From what you describe it looks like either there is no power getting to the starter or starter motor is faulty
clicking noise is the solonoid that should be be transfering power to the starter motor and that might not be happening.
