If your engine dosen`t even crank you have to first make sure the battery is fully charged. If so it sounds like it is your starter. When your starter goes bad your engine wont crank you get nothing when you turn the key.Try to start there.

Battery died, changed battery and now engine wont crank.

Look for a blown starter fuse or fusible link in your underhood block. Also look for what made it blow.

is the car a manual transmission or an automatic? if manual there is a switch on the clutch pedal that wont let engine turn over unless clutch is pushed to floor.automatic it is mounted on transmission at the linkage.for auto trans you can move shifter back an forth while trying to crank engine. if manual you can push clutch pedal to floor hard an try to crank.

1997 r 318is auto.. put another engine in from a manual car and now it wont run at stop signs while in gear what could this be.. anybody done this conversion and had the same problem? changed engine...

it sounds like you or who ever did this change over didnt get the vacuum lines reconnected rite. you need to check you lines. get the diagram under your hood and check all of it and make sure they are even put where they go. also check the lines going into transmission.
If you did this job make sure that you had pulled the adapter from your engines fly wheel / flex plate so that the clearance between that and torque converter is minimal.

Engine will crank over but wont start when

Change your oil to 5w-30 for the winter as it does not get as thick when its colder. Also most auto parts store sell a magnetic block heater that you just stick to the side of your engine and plug in at night. Both would help alot, and with the heater your car will warm up faster to get you out of the cold :)

Everything has power, but engine will not crank or even click when attempted to start.

could be a bad ground cable .replace battery cables if they havent been change in a while.if it still dont crank .remove starter have it advance auto parts and auto zone. if starter good.replace starter solenoid or relay.
