Question about 1996 Mitsubishi Eclipse

Shuts off while running

Like about two months ago i wa driving my 96 eclipse on the interstate and all of the sudden it shut off, i could not crank it right up i had to wait about 10 to 15 seconds before i was able to turn it back on, then it shut off again this happened like 4 to 6 time until it did not crank back up. I had to tow it back to my place and it sat there for like a month but i didnt mess with it, then i tried turning it on and it cranked for like about a minute or less, and shut off. I got a mechanic to check it out and he disconnected like a magnetic plate that goes on the right side of the eigine, then he tapped it a little and disconnected the negative from the battery and connected the palte back on and then the battery, it cranked up and stayed on for a while until it shut off. He replced the tempature sensor and the one below it also the thermostat and now the car no only shuts off it also heats up, and the fans wont turn on when they are suppose to. The fan on the right only turns on if the a/c is on the one on the left only turns on if the tempature sensor is not plugged. I dont know what to do, please help.

Its a non-turbo and a 2.0. I was able to turn it on and stays on until it heats up and only shut off once, it seems like when it heats up the hose where the radiator is hooked up on the top is just getting bloated and not hot but the one from the engine to the radiator at the bottom does get hot and gets bloated.

Don't waste your money troubleshooting. It's The Crank Knock Sensor. Very common issue. Also save the heartache and don't buy a used one as it almost assuredly will be bad also.

I don't think the fuel pump. Sounds like the crank position sensor. That, or the camshaft position sensor. The computer uses the cam position sensor to know when to pulse the injectors. The crank position sensor provides the information for spark timing. If the sensor fails, the computer won't signal the ignition module to create spark from the coils. Crank sensor failure is pretty common on earlier jeeps.

hi out telstar was doing that type of carry on and it finally died on the side of the road much to my wifes disgust . it ended up being the crank sender failing and cooking the ignition module. it was about $600 to fix but that was a few years back now. good luck

If it has a check engine light, then it should be scanned for trouble codes. If there isn't , then it sound like a full tune-up with proformance tests [ compression, timing, fuel pressure & volumn, etc, ] are in order.

1999 Honda Accord randomly shuts down while driving

The ignitor in the distributor needs changed. This little guy can cause massive headaches. They work intermittently, but once warm, they knock the ignition spark off.

Hope this helps, vote if you think so thanks.
