Very carefully! Really, I think if you use a flashlight to look under the front edge of the hood you should find a lever of some sort.

I have a 1946 studebaker flat head 6 with a externel oil pump but i cant get oil to pump up to the external filter by cranking pump is primed


has the filter been changed recently it may be plugged.

the bypass valve in the oil pump may be stuck open as well

I put a in line 6cyl. 250cu.in. in an old studebaker.I was told it came out of a 76 C-10 pickup.I used the wiring harness which came with the motor.How does the external coil get power.There are 4 prongs...


It would seem that you got an engine with an ignition control module (ICM) type (electronic) ignition. You will need to find a wiring diagram and see where the ICM unit fits into the system and what else it may need to work with your Studebaker.
You may want to consider changing to a breaker point distributor to simplify the installation. You will need to get a different coil and add a ballast resistor if the Studebaker didn't have one (but I suspect it has).
