SOURCE: 1992 Toyota Corolla CV Joint

You can pick up an entire re manufactured axle assembly at your local auto parts store. In order to replace the assembly you will need to disconnect the tie rod end and the ball joint. Remove the spindle nut. Push the axle stub out of the hub. Now with a suitable container under the axle to catch spilled fluid pry the axle from the transmission housing. Install is the reverse of removal. For more detailed instructions and diagrams go to www.autozone.com vehicle repair guides.

you could remove the instrument cluster from the dash and unplug / remove the light, or go the easy way and use a piece of electrical tape and cover it. as far as disabling it I would think the only way would be to reprogram your ECM

I need help to remove left hand side axle

Paseo and 1995–97 Tercel
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable to the battery. On vehicles equipped with an air bag, wait at least 90 seconds before proceeding.
  2. Raise and support the vehicle safely.
  3. Remove the left engine undercover and drain the transaxle.
  4. If equipped with ABS brakes, disconnect the ABS speed sensor by removing bolt.
  5. Remove the cotter pin and lock cap from the halfshaft.
  6. Apply the brake and remove the hub nut.
  7. Disconnect the tie rod from the steering knuckle.
  8. Disconnect the lower ball joint from the lower control arm by removing bolt and two nuts.
  9. Using a plastic hammer, disconnect the halfshaft from the axle hub.
  10. Using a brass bar and hammer, tap the inner joint out of the transaxle and remove the halfshaft. To install:
  11. Using a new snapring, push the halfshaft into the transaxle until it clicks into position. Pull on the inner joint to make sure it is fully installed.
  12. Push the outer joint into the axle hub.
  13. Connect the lower ball joint to the lower arm and torque the bolt and two nuts to 59 ft. lbs. (80 Nm).
  14. Connect the tie rod to the knuckle and torque the nut to 36 ft. lbs. (49 Nm). If the cotter pin cannot be installed, tighten to the next hole. Do not loosen the nut.
  15. Install the hub nut and torque to 152 ft. lbs. (206 Nm). Install a new cotter pin.
  16. Refill the transaxle. Install the undercover and the wheel.
  17. Check the front wheel alignment.
  18. Connect the negative battery cable to the battery
