First, if you have a fuel regulator on your drivers side fuel rail, pull the vacuum hose off the top and see if there is any gas in it. If not, start it for a couple minutes, shut it off for 5 minutes and try it again. If not, I would check your fuel pressure and volume with a pressure tester.

If there is gas in the hose, replace the regulator.

Get your codes read, I bought my code reader for less than $20 on ebay. Your looking for a OBD II code reader. Just a basic model tells you what the code is and can be translated by entering fault code into google.

Gas mileage is terrible, check engine light on,put on computer by friend said o2 sensor -i wasnt sure my friend new what he was doing so took to auto zone now they say the computer wont read

auto zone reader will sometimes not read codes. take it to your local garage and ask them to plug into it with an updated reader. i dont charge to read a code and i would hope they dont either. the o2 sensor could cause bad gas mileage. whens the last tune up done? check air filter. plugs? also check air in tires. low tires can cost fuel mileage as well. hope this helps

2001 chevy silverado the sevice light is blinking one side 4 ciliders only seems to be working?

You need to connect a scan tool or trouble code reader to your OBD2 connector under the dash board. Repost trouble codes after you know what they are.

Auto Zone and some other auto parts stores will let you use their code readers/scan tools.

When your SES is flashing, your engine is running in a state which could cause damage.

Your problem could be as simple as a failed oxygen sensor, but you need to know the codes.

Good Luck!

Reset check engine light for a 2001 chev silverado with 4.3

Unhook the negative side of the battery for 15 minutes and it will forget the code and relearn all parameters. It'll run and shift a little funky until it relearns. If your radio has a factory code lock, be sure to write that down before you unhook the battery or the radio won't work.

take it to an auto parts store that checks you check engine code for free.get the cone and trouble shooting print out .take apen and paper incase they cant print it out this code and what it represents is going to help you find your problem .once the light comes on it will stay in you memory till the battery is disconected or until a code reader clears it . so you have some vital info stored in your memory

yes the front sensor will collect metal shavings causing this same problem.however you need to have it scanned when the lights are on. auto zone scans for free. the front sensors are in the front hubs. replace as a set as assymblies.

I have a 2008 Silverado with a 4.3L engine. It has 46K miles. The engine light has come on and it idles rough and when accelerating, it pops back through the throttle body. Can you help with this problem?

Have the DTC read and take it from there. But i bet you have a cylinder misfiring. Once you get the DTC read it will lead you to the problem and you can tackle the job from there. It usually is a pretty easy fix.

Cut out and won't run when under power. idles fine

Sounds like your fuel filter is becoming clogged. Until your fuel runs too lean, you will not get an error code report.

Fuel filters are cheap.
Replace it every 50K miles to avoid this kind of problem.

Check the fuel regulator. Pull the vacuume line. If fuel comes out, it's bad.
Another thing to check are your plug wires. When its dark, Start the engine, put on the A/C, radio, headlights, anything to put a load on the motor, and go to the engine compartment and look for cross firing on the plug wires.
