What code do you have? There are no sensors on the carbon canister. The only time it would need to be replaced for an EVAP problem is if it where cracked, broken, or leaking vacuum. There is a vent solenoid which opens and closes the EVAP system. It is attached to the charcoal canister with a rubber hose. This is far more common to cause issues that the canister. Let me know if you have any questions and I'll do my best to answer them. Thank you for using FixYa.com!

first check the gas cap. It could be the problem. Do not replace it with an aftermarket cap from a parts store. ONLY REPLACE IT WITH AN O.E. CAP FROM THE DEALER!

If the gas cap doesn't take care of it than I wouldn't hesitate to replace the vent solenoid as the next step.

The code means there is a leak in the evap system. It could be any number of the 20 +/- parts that make up the system. It could be anything from a cracked hose to a rusted fuel filler neck.

If this where in a shop they would "smoke" the system to find the leak.

  2. Go to passenger side under the dash remove the lower panel from the dash to access the heater box.
  3. Unplug any and all connections on the lower half of the heater box and remove the lower half of the box should be about six screws you should see the heater core and the evaporator core.

My back window defroster won't work on my 99 Ponitac sunfire

On this year vehicle the flapper should be vacuum controlled. You may want to look at the vacuum lines going to and from the vacuum canister in the engine compartment. If it will change from floor to dash but not defrost then you may have a failed vacuum line or diaphragm in the dash from the selector.

Pontiac Sunfire 1997. Won't start.

When jumped off ,if it drags to start, have the starter checked, and if when jumping the car off,the starter turns the engine over real good, then the cables are most likely the problem, replace them.

How hard is it to replace a fuel sensor on a

It all depends which sensor you are talking about. The one on the canister a real pain. The one by the gas tank a bit easier.

I need to replace the canister purge solenoid so I need a diagram.

No need, just go to your charcoal canister and the only thing that has an electrical connector is the solenoid. There will be several vacuum lines connected to it as well.

I have a 2001 pontiac sunfire i think it needs a new charcoal canister where is it and is it hard to replace? how much do they cost? to the person helping thanx if u have a diagram that would b great

the canister is right beside the computer, under the front fender passenger side.it is a small black box. you will have to remove the inner wheel walls to get to it.your car should not need that replaced already.if you have any other questions just email me at sugarysweet@live.ca , yes I am female but I know my Sunfires.
