Where would the heater fan relay be? Is that in the fuse box? Sorry...not too smart about car stuff. I have a guy friend who might be able to help me but I'd like to have some solutions ready. Really appreciate all of the ideas I've been getting on this site!

Just an update- The blower motor resistor was replaced and it works great now!. Dropped the glove box down to access the part. Replaced the part but then the blower was going constantly...it never shut off!. My friend thought it was a defective replacement part and returned it for another. Placed that resistor in and it works like a charm! It took less than 5 min to drop the glove box and replace the part. Cost $70 but was well worth it!!! I don't have to use the ice scraper to keep the inside windows clear :) Thanks for all the advice---just love this site!

Most of the time when a heater blower quits working it is the blower switch that fails rather than the motor. Blower switch can be accessed in the dash panel.

Where's the heater relay, that's a good question. You could probably do a Google search on the relay location, look at an on-line service manual etc. to determine the location. The relays are usually about half the size of a pack of cigarettes. Good Luck! Let me know what happens.

Relays and fuses are under hood near the battery.

Before replacing the motor or even the selector switch, make sure the fan motor relay is working properly, most of the time, this is the main problem with intermittent heater fan problems

Heat sometimes works in 2003 envoy

First I recommend checking that your coolant level is good. Please check this cold so you don't risk getting burned. I have seen too many heater complaints where the coolant level was simply too low to fill the heater core. Next, you should check if the heater control valve is operating. I don't have any GM experience, but heater valves are often the cause of intermittent heater operation in many cars. Good luck!

Fan works intermittently, fuses ok

Check and see if you have power to the blower motor regulator. It is located behind the glove box.

Heater/blower fan not working at all after intermittently working

Heater motor is prone to water damage when the small drain scuttle drain gets blocked (usually by leaves).
If the passenger footwell carpet is damp, that's probably the problem.
Worth checking regularly anyway, and/or remove the small cover over the drain which is part of the problem.
Remove the heater assembly (located over passenger footwell) and replace is the easy answer.
It is possible, depending on ability, to strip and repair.
New from Europarts around £130, used around £60.
Have fun!
